Based on your info it sounds like the quest mobs scale based on your level. When I did the first quest against the Magitek soldiers they were roughly level 14.

I'm at chapter 6 and level 42 with the main mission being recommended at level 25. I heard the last mission is recommended at level 45. I do think they scale up a little bit like 5-7 levels at times above the recommended level.

I have noticed that I can cheese my way through a lot of fights by spamming potions. I feel like the turn based system of old had a lot more nuance.
This just feels like I have a stick and I go around beating the living shite out of everything within a certain radius.
I'm also not enjoying how they took it upon themselves to have so many plot developments happen off screen.
I keep being surprised by revelations from random npcs and my 3 amigos about things that have dire plot implications but received no cutscenes or context. It comes off as a shitty plot after a while.
That said, I haven't been able to play much else all week.

I have not noticed bad loading times at all? Maybe it is because I am on the Pro?
My mistake in wording, I meant when I said loading times I'm just comparing it to riding in the car and gaining AP.
I personally think it's more worth your time to ride in the car and gain the AP, than waiting 30-45 seconds for the loading screen.
Yea man see that just isn't the case for the Pro. It is like 5 to 10 secs of a loading screen.
If I really wanted to grind AP I could just go warp strike kill lv 2 enemies. Way faster.

Maybe they're talking bout the Cid missions for the weapons that have the yellow plus sign in their thumb nail? Weapons like the biobloaster and engine blade..
This is it, I upgraded my engine blade to the ultima blade. Just waiting on Cid to finish it and give it back to me.

You can pretty much almost dodge every attack with holding down the dodge and parry button. Try to get behind enemies for the critical hit. I've learned Noctis is a glass cannon and isn't made to take hits. I haven't come close to dying yet because every time Noctis is down either I use a potion or a someone brings him back up.

Yea, I have not gotten close to dying yet. I do use wait mode though and just warp strike all over the place so I almost never get touched.

I use wait mode but I haven't really been doing much with it besides using it for Libra. Generally I don't need an "active pause" to be able to just warp strike, phase through their attacks, hit a combo, then run away and rinse and repeat

I've upgraded a lot of weapons; including all the ones you get from the Caem carrot harvesting but I've tried that last of the spiracorn quest so many times trying to get the helix horn and no luck. It's rather annoying lol.

I suppose the wait system makes for a more strategic means of accomplishing things.
I'm just not sold on active combat with square enix games. I wasn't a huge fan of kingdom hearts back in the day. A game like the witcher 3 does real time combat a hell of a lot better, IMO.

This is one thing that I have zero problem with.
This is Noct's story and I have no problem with us not seeing what is happening hundreds of miles away from him.

You realize the Witcher's combat system was completely shite on, right? FF XV's and KH's battle system is literally light years ahead of what the Witcher implemented in it's game, and I think the Witcher 3 is the greatest game I've ever played, so it's not some personal beef or anything.

To get the horn you need, you have to break the horns of the 2 big ones in that hunt. What I did was eat the +50% item find food while camping, mom and son rice bowl. Then I got the hunt quest, went to the area of the quest, killed the 3 little ones, ran away from the quest area, and saved the game. That way you have the 2 big guys up that drop the horn and you can just keep re-loading your save until you get the rare drop.

Just a difference in opinion.
I prefer a little more subdued approach. Maybe I just don't get it but I don't appreciate the evolution of squares combat systems.
With regard to it being noct's story...
Well, thank goodness for that! He's the only one who seems to be getting any plot development. The motivations of the empire are largely unknown. Aside from the spectacle of a few cutscenes, I feel completely disconnected from this world.

Yeah I know you had to break the big ones horns.. I'm definitely going to try that whole strategy though.
Edit: just tried this method.. one reload and I got it. That was so much easier; thanks.

For sure. I like the battle system, but I also think I suck at it

Witcher combat is so stale and boring.

I consider this unfocused and chaotic.
Different strokes.
That isn't to say I don't enjoy aspects of it, but it will never be as memorable to me as the snes and ps1 era final fantasy games.
Better characters, better plot lines, more interesting locales.

Agree to disagree on this.
The majority of original FF players will always say this and unfortunately I don't think the majority of you guys (myself included, I played I-V, VII) are open to an evolution of the series. That's one of the reasons why I stopped playing, because everyone just bitched non-stop every time a new one came out.
I think it's stubbornness to move on more than anything.
There isn't really anything wrong with it though, it's just people becoming old and yelling, "Back in my day!".
I mean it's just like the Michael Jordan versus Lebron debate. People around when Jordan was playing will always say he is the GOAT because he was the original. Original FF players who always say it can't get better than what it was.
While FF XV is not masterpiece by any account, it's still a great game IMO. There hasn't been one segment where I've sat down to play and haven't enjoyed myself.

I just don't think you can design games that way anymore. Too expensive with modern graphics expectations and having to pay out for voice acting talent.
You lose something in the process.
That's why this final fantasy vii remake will be interesting to see.
I am willing to concede that this series likely just isn't for me anymore.

i will say these are my favorite dungeons since the 8 and 16 bit days. they aren't dressed up very well, but the layout is great. i wish they would serve as a pass between locations and i wish this had been a journey on foot that directed you along but allowed for exploration if you choose, then get the car or airship as a way of going back and exploring much more expeditiously
my thoughts. good game, open world is impressive but mixed results as to whether that was the right choice
