Final Fantasy games (not sequels/expansions) where the end boss is the primary antagonist

Correct me if I'm wrong on this:
Final Fantasy: Yes, technically because Garland is Chaos
Final Fantasy II: Yes, The Emperor
Final Fantasy III: Yes. Cloud of Darkness
Final Fantasy IV: No. Golbez is the primary antagonist but switches sides right before the Zemus/Zeromus fight.
Final Fantasy V: Yes. Exdeath
Final Fantasy VI: Yes. Kefka is still the greatest/worst Final Fantasy villain
Final Fantasy VII: Yes. Sephiroth
Final Fantasy VIII: No. The primary antagonist rotates between Seifer and Egea, but Ultimecia doesn't show her face until the end.
Final Fantasy IX: No. Kuja is the primary antagonist but not the final boss.
Final Fantasy X: No. Seymour is the primary antagonist, followed by Jecht/Sin. Yu Yevon is the final boss.
Final Fantasy XII: Yes, Vayne Solidor
Final Fantasy XIII: Is there a primary antagonist? Orphan is the final boss.
Final Fantasy XV: Yes. Ardyn

I hope they eventually make 6 available for Xbox. I’m a huge FF fanboy but still haven’t played 6
And I think the primary antagonist for 13 would be Bathandalus, so it would be a no

I would really like for high quality ports of squares snes games to be made available on the switch. Perfect platform for those titles.

Agreed. We're a minority, but there is a very resolute group of people, myself included, that consider FF6 the best FF game.
I think FF7 blew so many people away because for many it was actually the first JRPG they played. The JRPG was a very niche genre in the US in the early to mid 90's. It steadily grew and grew and FF7 was sorta the first JRPG to achieve smash hit status stateside.

there might be things worst than death... and having to live in a world with no light with monsters outside that can rip your head off you without even trying... might actually be worst than death. (for 10 years might I add... 2 weeks of Quarantine has been absolutely torture to me and I can go to a grocery store to get food, etc.... there just aren't going to be many people left after the 10 years of Ardyn's reign)
Also at least in FF6 the world rebuilds itself after - in ffxv there really can't be that many people left alive, and those that are had to watch all of their family / friends die a slow painful death of starvation, etc.
I'm going with Ardyn, frick that existence he created

I believe they just had a worldwide vote and 10 won with 7 coming in 2nd. I think it depends on your age and what order you played them. I put 8 as my favorite despite its deficiencies because it was the first one I played and made me fall in love with rpgs. I refused to play the remaster because I’m scared I’m going to frick up my nostalgic memories of it if I play it way older
I think 9 and 12 are the most critically acclaimed but not many outside of Japan like 12. I’m actually playing it now about 50 hours in and it’s not bad but I wouldn’t put it in my top 3. I beat 9 for the first time last summer and loved it. Probably my #2
Sorry for the hijack OP

I never played past 9, the series went into a direction I had no interest in just tone wise.
I liked FF when it was more medieval in tone, swords and shields and stuff. The sci-fi/steampunk/anime shite sorta took over to the point of it being obnoxious. Just not my cup of tea.

Still need to play FF6. I've played so many JRPGs but not that game for whatever reason. Would it be better to play FF6 SNES or FF6 Advanced on GBA?

I'm not sure what differences if any exist in the GBA port, never played it.
Playing it on a bigger screen would just be better and playing it as it originally was released I always put a high priority on anyway.
You can play it on the SNES or the PS1 if you get Final Fantasy Anthology, which has FF6 and FF5 as a bonus.
The SNES cart is probably expensive, looks like $50+ loose on ebay.

i just started 8 remastered on xbox.
will probably pick up 7 remastered next month.
the junction system in 8 is a hot mess. but biy you can break the shite outta the game with it if you try and use draw constantly

You can break 9 easily too. There’s a way you can kill nova(?) dragons in the first disc in just a couple hits using one of quinas blue magic techniques and can get stupidly over leveled. I didn’t do it but by the time I did fight the final boss I was over leveled just from doing side shite and he was a joke. Ozma was a good challenge though

The first JRPG I ever beat was Tales of Xillia for the PS3.
The first FF I ever beat was 12 on the PS4.
I liked 7, but it didn't blow me away. It's story beats are ingrained into gaming culture, so I knew about Aeris/Sephiroth/Cloud/Zack. You can't beat the ATB battle system. I also found the materia system to be fun to experiment with while easy to understand. Too many JRPGTs go with really convoluted leveling systems (including the FFs that would come over).
I thought most other aspects of the story outside of the memorable moments everyone talks bout were overly convoluted and made no sense.

ff7 is ingrained. ive done so little research though thst i only know cloud sephiroth etc by name and not by what hsppened and how you got there. jrpg are about the journey as much as they are the final boss

The combos you could discover with the materia system was really cool and definitely one of the more fun things to play around with, but one thing I always strongly disliked about it was that it made your characters kinda pointless. They were mostly reduced to walking Materia slots, their individual skills and traits became rather pointless.
That's one major reason I think I liked FF6 better, it had a much wider cast of characters and all the characters felt very unique and had very noticeable skills, strengths, and weaknesses, regardless of the Magicite they equipped.

Also with 6, if you make a wrong move near the halfway point, Shadow doesn't survive and you never find out that he (Clyde) is Relm's father. (The fact that Interceptor likes her and he hates all other people is a huge hint)
As far as Kefka vs. Ardyn, Kefka had the floating tower of death that would zap you out of existence if he felt like it (literal God Gun) from above.

This. Ardyn did destroy the world, except he made everyone endure that destruction every day.

I mean, I get it, kefka was horrible. But on a scale of how I would like to die - I'll go with the tower that vaporizes me if the new god feels like and then ultimately coming back to life because the protagonist wins to... over 10 years of slowly dying of starvation, never seeing light again, with no chance to ever come back to life or see my friends again if I somehow survive the horror scape
ETA: if you guys can't tell - the ending to XV really really got to me. It was actually the first time in a video game... since Kefka. The idea of a world devoid of light and with things like behemoth walking the land just to kill you is absolutely terrifying.
Ardyn won, in every since of the word, Ardyn won. Even in the end, how does the world come back from 10 years of that?!

If I were Squall, I would have beat Seifer's arse in the classroom at the beginning of the game.
