maaaan it sure would be nice if I would do something like this... next week I will be getting a new computer at work - I might download one of those virtual remote programs when we get the upgrade. My currently computer at work couldn't handle it if I wanted it to.

I ended up getting the game last night, but my legacy server from when I played briefly before was a Japanese one.
Out of all of the NA/EU servers, only Couerl was accepting new characters, so I stuck my Thaumaturge there. Ranger and Bard were my two favorite jobs in XI, but the Black Mage is calling to me now that the solo grind to level a Caster isn't such a pain in the arse.
As a side note, it amuses me that Thaumaturge wants to correct to Turbocharge in Chrome.

THM is extremely fun in ARR.. also as for the server thing, like I said, server transfers will exist starting mid-september.. so no biggie. Not to mention, a lot of NA players are going to JP servers right now - because they can't get into NA servers anyways!

I like the gameplay overhaul, as derivative as it is. It at least derives from the right places.
Anything I could say to criticize the mechanics would be essentially criticizing Final Fantasy as an identity.
I do feel comfortable saying that this game has quite a lot of annoying Japanese quirks to it as far as the lore and cultural ecology are concerned. I typically hate Gnomes in other Fantasy settings, but Tarutaru/Lalafell make Gnomes look dignified.

Think I just joined a Japan server lol oh well. Hope to just get some practice then create a new play and join you guys when the servers are more steady.

Which one did you join? And like andvari said, hopefully you'll just be able to transfer what you do to Hyperion when they offer it next month.

Never understood why someone would want to play most diminutive races, really. It's not that they are inherently bad, just that they are almost always written and animated childishly.
The Asura from Guild Wars are probably one of the best examples I can recall of a diminutive race given some maturity. But even they are slightly caricature-like with their stereotypical technobabble.
To answer your question, the reason I don't like Tarutaru or other races like them is because they are there to serve one purpose... to be cute. Same as the cat-eared humanoids.

Probably a good idea for now. From what I am reading all the NA/EU servers just completely filled up and no new characters can be created currently. They are going to really upset some people if it is not somewhat salvageable by this holiday weekend.
