FFXIV and How much better it has become

I use to play XI, so when XIV was announced I was extremely pessimistic about the game.. and then the beta came out and is truly sucked, BAD.
Needless to say, they have released information about FFXIV 2.0 and have started changing the game up drastically.. I was still pessimistic until I tried it out last night, the game has completely changed, pretty much everything about the original game that sucked has been fixed, and the game is actually a lot of fun now.
I know :csb: but meh, just figured I'ld let you guys know that the game has come a long way, and really feels like FFXI 2.0 now, they haven't just fixed the things that XIV did wrong but have added things that fix the problems XI had, but made it feel more like XI than XIV originally did.
I'm on server Wutai if any of your feel like joining. Have a great day.
P.S: It's also only $20 on Amazon..

NVM. This is about the MMO. I thought you were talking about the new release of the last console game.

Because I tried The Old Republic, and it was a spam MMO like WoW, I like depth in my games.
(by spam MMO I mean, the auto-attack is pointless, and in ToR's case there isn't any at all, and you just constantly use WS after WS after WS.. instead of using strategy to kill the mobs)

I feel like I've played every iteration of FFXIV from beta to present. I for one can vouch that it is one of the most persistently improving MMOs in the wild.
The Director of FFXI's glory days is not only radically changing, but also gutting and rebuilding FFXIV in pretty amazing ways.
Remembering the ambitious but flawed game that XIV was on release day, I can hardly imagine this is the same game today.
Anyways, just chiming in. I'm hopeful that as the game goes through a literal rebirth later this year, people will take notice and XIV can shake off a lot of the negative stigmas it's garnered.

Isn't FFXIV just a grind to level game ? Most players in North America don't like their MMO's that way.
That is a good thing.
Uh... I definitely use strategy when fighting tough mobs in TOR

I'm usually texting someone, so I can understand that.
"8,8,8,8,8,9,7,8,8......"

In a game like ToR it's the best thing. I felt that WoW's auto attack was 100% pointless, and it was great that ToR took it out. Why have something in there that can only hurt you?

Nope, it's not like XI in this way. It actually simplifies the "quest grind" in Western MMOs and makes it less annoying. I was level 8 on one of my jobs within an hour last night. (max level right now is 50 so it was actually extremely quick)

Spam 2, 3, 2, Ws is ready! 4, - Spam 2, 3, 2, new WS is ready! 5! Oh no he's doing a move, Run away! Run back to mob Spam 2, 3, 2,... rinse repeat..
In a matter of a minute you have pushed 50 keys, albet they are the same key, but you are spaming your 2, 3, 4 and 5 buttons.
In XIV you actually pay attention to everything and don't spam at all, I'll take the non-spamming MMO. (in comparison I push 1-2 buttons MAYBE in a minutes time as a melee or tank.. and pay attention to all the things around me)
Different strokes though.. and all that jazz.

That summarizes any WoW clone MMO.
In Rift and WoW I always felt like I was approaching each battle with a huge hammer just trying to smash each enemy as fast as possible with as little let up as possible. What it turned into was a set sequence of my action bar that I reproduced on EVERY SINGLE ENEMY.
In XI, and now XIV, combat is more about acting and reacting, something WoW never grasped. Especially in boss battles, each engagement in battle in WoW was scripted to predictability. Luckily that isn't the case in XIV, I feel. he combat is much more spontaneous.

I can't believe this is a real thread. The game was a terrible joke at all stages of original development and at launch, and still has a long way to go before it's a serious competitor to anything.

So you don't actually have to play the game ? You just sit there and watch your guy do his thing ? Doesn't sound very fun.
I have always played a tank in MMO, and I always knows everything that is going on around me.

It has found it's way.. I don't know how.. but it has. I honestly can't believe I'm even THINKING about saying it's this good, much less making a thread about it.

I would actually gander to say you "play" the game even more. People don't understand the depth of a game they are missing by playing a game like ToR or WoW. You are ALWAYS doing something in XIV, but it requires the use of more thinking and less spontaneity.

I'm actually a tank as well and I actually think the tank positions are the MOST fun, and are the ones that benefit the MOST from a game like XIV instead of WoW. In a game like WoW I always feel like the guy that does crowd control.. in a game like XIV I actually feel like the guy saving other player's asses.

Perhaps its just not your cup of tea?
The milestones that XIV has crossed are truly amazing given the year's time since release. To say it isn't improving drastically is simply being purposefully negative.

I'm an XI vet. I didn't play XIV at launch because I had never previously heard of an MMO bombing as horribly as it did.
I have no doubt that they've made substantial improvements, but I don't know if that can save what's already a dying game. I know subs are terrible. You can only do so much to fix original perception.

The beauty of a FF MMO is that there will always be new blood and people "testing the waters".
By the time I left XI I would say 80% of the people playing had started XI at CoP or later. There is still the ps3 launch coming in Nov. and they really want to make a huge splash at e3 this year..
As for being an old XI vet, if you ever chose to try it out, make sure to come on over to Wutai and Alien, sic and I will give ya some pointers / guide ya into the game. (not that I would be any good right now considering I just started yesterday)
ETA: Oh yeah, and XIV 2.0 is basically going to Rise of the Zilart, if you remember correctly, none of us over here in the states had even TOUCHED XI before Rise of the Zilart... this game has a long way to go still.

Is it still f2p? I'd give it another shot if it still is.

I don't know - I played XI for about three years before I moved on to better games with more competent PC interfaces. The lore of FFXIV is also typically SquareEnix dull. "It's a magical world that is actually exactly the same as other worlds we've created but we hope to trick you by giving everything different names."
And I'm not purposefully negative - I wanted XIV to be the game that XI could have been. I think it's had leaps in improvement, but I'm still not ready to even say that it's an acceptable product. I'll give it another shot when 2.0 hits Beta.

I salute your enthusiasm. I'll look into it.
