But thats origin.

Origin is a horrible place to DL from.

Not even close to the way Steam hosts and delivers you a file.

It gives you the potential to have a consitent 12MB DL speed if that's what your ISP provides you.

Yeah but what about trying to play the game or a game while you are downloading a large arse file?

How is that going to work out, system tries to distribute your speed equally? So if playing say, BF4 online while downloading a purchased game with a 12Mbps connection, 6Mbps on BF4 and 6Mbps to the download?

It's gonna be useless if it lags the shite out of you while downloading in the background.

The fastest torrent speed i've ever gotten was 1MB and i have 3-10 MB speed. Its dsl so it fluctuates out in the suburbs. But i've never really maxed out my speed when downloading any type of file.

I think the PS5 and XBox Two should have interchangeable parts. Make like a dummy proof way of upgrading hardware. The names Sony and Microsoft carry serious wait. Could you imagine the game changing aspect of upgrading a console whenever you needed? A hybrid PC/Console would be ridiculous.

That's your own fault.

Steam allows you to pre-load new releases up to a week in advance that way at 12 midnight they "flip the switch" and you can start playing. What I do is I set my stuff to download when I know I won't be playing and walk away while it does its thing.

Also, I thought the Xbox and PS4 have low power states just for the point of downloading and always being ready at a moments notice.

Just leave it on the low power state when you go to bed at night and it will be ready to go when you wake up or get home from work that afternoon.

Well I am when you are downloading the same game you are playing.

Like they showed in the video, the guy bought Killzone 4, and it gave him the option to download single player or multiplayer first.

That's going to be the option for any purchased game, and most people are going to pick to get the muliplayer first for most games especially shooters.

I guess you could just pause the single player download until you were done playing and then resume it.

I have 10MB and sometimes I get as high as 11-12. Sounds like your ISP may throttle you or you are doing it at peak demand hours. Late at night is when you will get the faster speeds in suburbs.

It's no issue for people on fiber with 40 down to do this but it's an issue for people on DSL with 10 down like me.

It's never kept me from playing. I browse what I want to buy well in advance to actually playing it so I have plenty of time to have it downloaded and ready to go. Steam also auto updates everything in my library for me so no issues there. It's nice not to have to wait on updates when popping in a disc.

Yeah PS+ via PS3/Vita does this as well, system and game updates automatically download in the cloud even if the system is off, it's very very nice.

I just know a lot of games on Day 1 Digital I tend to download right at midnight as soon as the DL unlocks and I'll definitely choose multiplayer to DL first but shouldn't be an issue with 16Mbps Cable but for others it could be.

Well, if PS4 could figure a way keep people from figuring out how to play the game early offline...cough cough...DRM and 24 hour checks then maybe they could let people pre-load new releases that way they can play right at midnight like on Steam.

Just saying...

Or find a reasonable way that doesn't piss off 90% of gamers.

I think GameStop is about 10-15 years away from the beginning of their end. Kinda like Blockbuster in 2004.

Gamestops only hope is to try to go all digital download, but that would mean convincing MS and Sony to allow them to have a store on those consoles.

Ain't gonna happen.

Steam doesn't seem to piss of 90% of gamers and it works for them.

Build yourself a WISP then charge your neighbors to access it to pay for the T1 line you would have to run to it.

LINK

I was seriously looking at doing this when I was thinking about moving onto some family land in BFE.

No. I thought it was faster. I may have it wrong then. I had spoken with AT&T 3 years ago when I looked into it and it was going to be so much more than that. Maybe 50 or so? I can't remember.

All I remember was it would be enough to add neighbors around me and still have decent DL and UL speeds without having to resort to satellite.

ETA: It was a line/feature AT&T had that would allow me to resale the service. It wasn't cheap.
