he more I play this game, the less I believe they tried to inject too much subtext into this game. It seems like a pretty straightforward police good, cults bad type of narrative.

Was listening to the beastcast today, and they felt that when they first announced the premise of this game, the reaction from everyone else wasn't what they were expecting. People couldn't believe they were going to go there. So it feels like they backed off on that big time. Not nearly as "edgy" as they had first advertised.

I wouldn’t necessarily be upset if they tried to do a little more with the plot.

One interesting possibility could have been federal/police overreach. Imagine a premise where a cult is somewhat problematic/threatening and the police responds. It could make for some interesting
dialogue as the cultists defend their ideals and the police have to justify their behavior.

The race/white supremacist angle would be a difficult one to execute, but if they could tell a compelling story without getting too hamfisted, it could have been interesting. I generally don’t trust developers to write that sort of material well though. See wolfenstein, for example.

That's not associated with you being on a main story quest? Open world, run around and do dumb shite, those are staples of Far Cry games. I'm sure there are scripted moments involved with the quests, but you should still be able to wander aimlessly.

They're not part of quests. I'm just trying to fish and the game forces enemies to capture me and have to try to escape from them or watch a long interactive and unskippable cutscene.

You hit a milestone in the quest lone. There is no skipping it. Part of the story

Well then it's not an open world game and it breaks immersion.

I completed the game last night. Both of the possible endings are pretty dark.

The true ending is especially crazy. Sort of vindicates the fathers thinking that the end is near. Seems as though the world was on the brink which may have inspired him to form the cult in the first place. Granted, some of his dialogue firmly establishes that he was devoted to his path to the point of insanity but it wasn’t without some external cues.

The world being on the brink of collaspe is relayed to the player within the first 5 minutes.

It is also all over texts, notes and recordings in the game. The world is in a depression.

I was playing coop with someone who has a tendency to rush through shite, so perhaps I missed some of the ancillary plot details.

Most of the notes that I took time to read seemed to be more locally focused so I didn’t pick up on the state of the country or world as a whole.

And truthfully, I have a tendency to ignore a decent chunk of text and audio logs due to time constraints even if I lose a little immersion in the process.

They have some prepper areas with HAM radios with creepy recordings from the outside.

Those give you really really good insight to the state of the outside world.

Faith's region was a complete waste of time and area. Her shite was ridiculous and annoying.

Culling the herd was by far the most interesting area. So much in fact that I found myself in agreement with most of the ideas they presented.

So I know it's early on, but did anybody have trouble with "The Cleansing" mission? I keep trying to use the mortar but I'm thinking that may be a waste of time. Made it to the helicopter once and then it wouldn't take off (I think because I had to revive my guy). I know I could google it but I try to avoid walk throughs if I can.

After I did the bad ending ( assuming they would just leave and frick him up after) and hit continue it let me do the " good" ending.

Not about to restart and do the 3rd ending.

Now if i continue it will let me go back and 100% complete quests. maybe when that's done i will do 3rd ending.

There’s no 3rd ending but there’s secret one at the beginning if you didn’t cuff Joesph.

NO SPOILERS HERE.

I've been running around, exploring the world, seeing what happens.

I've liberated a couple of outposts, been attacked countless times for having the audacity to be near a road, and mauled to death a couple of times by wild animals.

The game is fun as hell. The gun dynamics are acceptable, and you are allowed to defeat your enemies in many entertaining ways. You also will die enough to make it challenging.

Open World - it is indeed open world, but you will find your path marred by mountains, locked ropes, etc. that will make it seem linear.

Wildlife - I'm experiencing wildlife that transforms from a cougar to a bear to a bison. Not sure what to make of that, unless it's the drug I inhaled at the beginning of the game. Kill em and cash in.

Not sure what to make of the chick that appears all the time. I usually just shoot her from a distance. I've managed to kill my helper dude by shooting a hornets nest. He was stung to death. Ugh.

No spoiler - how do you free a human locked in a meat cart?

Completed the Admiral Fish Quest. You get a nice loot but it’s hard fighting all of those fish.

Also, the “Burn Baby Burn” Quest is absolutely hilarious. I think I laughed my arse off the entire quest.

That's only in Faith's region.
