F1 2022/F1 Manager 2022...Racing Rigs Discussion

Figured I'd throw it all into 1 thread. I saw a couple of threads from the past discussing racing rigs but didn't want to bump those so I'll pile it on in here.
Anyone a big fan of the F1 series? I honestly knew nothing about F1 2 weeks ago. Long story short, my boys go away for the summer, I have tons of free time on my hands, just so happened to catch some of the Monaco Grand Prix. So I spent the past 2 weeks reading every F1 article I can find and also playing wayyyyyyy too many hours of F1 2021, and I really love this game.
Pretty excited for F1 2022, and I'll more than likely try out the F1 Manager game as well. Honestly, even the F1 2021 has helped me learn a good bit about F1, so I'm sure the F1 Manager game will help me learn more about the technical process, so that should be fun.
On to racing rigs...I'm playing enough right now to certainly warrant a starter set with the Logitech G923 and a mount, and possible seat. My only hesitation is possibly spending $400-500 on this and not seeing a result where I'm better than on the controller. Probably a silly question, but for someone putting in time and actually trying to get better, would you say that it is essentially a guarantee that I'll see much improved results over just using a standard controller? Obviously I'd expect to be better, but just wondering if there is a large contingent of folks who simply don't get better, as that concerns me.

Another question, how do you guys do at Monaco? That could be for controller or racing wheel.
I'm still new at the game so I have the Sim difficulty at 60,which seems perfect for every track but Monaco. I get a rare win, finish down near the bottom sometimes, and finished 9th in the standings in season 1. Basically always competitive.
But Monaco is just impossible for me on the controller. I'm probably 4-5 seconds below the slowest driver and every 3 laps or so I'll hit a wall that requires a pit stop. It's not good.
Wondering if that's just me and/or if you do have a racing rig, do you notice a marked improvement specifically at Monaco?

Have nothing to add about the games/racing rig. Just came to say you should watch the F1 documentary on Netflix. It's extremely well done. It's one of the big reasons why F-1 is gaining a lot of popularity in the US over the last year or so.
Edit: I haven't picked up F-1 game since 2018. I've been strongly considering getting 2022. But I remember even back in 2018 I sucked big time at Monaco. Same thing - I would be so far behind everyone else I would just sim the rest of the race

quote:Thanks man. I actually did start, I think I'm on episode 4 of the latest season so I can kinda be up to speed for this season.

Then, I'll go from oldest to newest once done. And I agree, it is really good and well done. Some of the live shots of the races look so good.

From what I hear, even the cheap wheels add more control to the game than the basic controller allows. Can’t say for sure as I don’t play enough to sink even 250 into it but I thoroughly enjoy the game on the controller.

quote:Same. I'm sure it would be done and make me better. I guess I'm just iffy on dropping that much for it.

I'm on xbox and looking at the Logitech G923, then a racing stand, and maybe a racing seat as well.

I got a Logitech g923. But my own mount. Getting a VR set and f122 soon

Don’t anything to add but thanks for reminding me to preorder f1 2022

I have used it. Not really.
It probably would get me better if I had the time to play consistently.

It's a better experience overall with a wheel, you will not regret it.

Gonna give it a couple more weeks to make sure I'm still invested in playing enough to go ahead and make the purchase.

quote:Man, so I said I'm new at this F1 thing but I had the R&D automated but I guess I thought that meant the entire car setup would be automated so I never touched anything. Well, I finally found the spot where you can configure your car setup for each track. I also found a website that gives car configurations for each track, and that's obviously helping a good bit.
But Monaco is just impossible for me on the controller. I'm probably 4-5 seconds below the slowest driver and every 3 laps or so I'll hit a wall that requires a pit stop. It's not good.
My Monaco time still isn't that good but just in the 1st 5 laps using the Monaco config I improved my lap time from low 1:20s to 1:16.

I run maximum downforce every time I race Monaco, it’s the only way I can get around that track in one piece. Can’t say what it’s like on career but when I race online I routinely whip the field. Big thing that has helped me to improve is figuring out which tracks to run increased and reduced downforce on. Monaco is mostly about getting through those brutal turns in one piece and max downforce will help you do that.

It helped me so much at Monaco it's kinda to the point where I'm fine on the slow corners, but still struggle on the faster corners since it's still so tight, and I'm not terribly great at staying on the racing line on the controller.
Taking Monaco out of the equation, I'm in a weird spot in my season. For the 23 races, probably around 9 or 10 times I'll have the fastest lap and another 7 or so times in a season I'll get pole position. I'm in a Mercedes with Hamilton as my teammates. That may make it seem it's a bit easier, but I can always put together 1 or quite a few really good laps, but in probably 75% of my races, I'll always have 1-2 really bad turns where I'll spin out or have a car touch me from behind(since I'm struggling to stay on the line) and it kills me on the race. I finished 9th in the standings last season.
So I'm kinda stuck there where I can't make sim difficulty easier because it's probably already fairly easy ish, but I just screw up just once most races and kills it for me.

Been playing F1 since 19. Played 19-20 on controller, got a G29 about a year ago. The whole entire experience is 1000x better on wheel. And my pace is drastically better. Just started Assetto Corsa this weekend. Gonna give that a whirl til 22 comes out
