I don't oppose this game if Italians and Greeks could go steal their shite back as well.
I want the off-world Egyptian gods to come back to Earth and do the same.

But they aren’t. The owners are making money. It’s no different than the movie tax credits and the Hollywood accounting practices. The key is properly packaging your product, then finding the lowest cost help available that qualify. If the movie takes off you make a killing. But the worst case scenario is it fails and the company folds…but that doesn’t happen until the producers get their salaries.
Look at Yale entertainment. They ran up $50 mil in liabilities and are about to declare bankruptcy…yet throughout their tenure the producers were the first paid and pulled in $175k/mo for their efforts.
A cynical person might consider this money laundering.

If developers from these cultures cared enough to make a game like this, why not?

I would pay good money for a Stargate prequal in which I get to play a dry humored Teal'c planning and executing a heist to steal back Goa'uld artifacts

I'd play the shite out of that game.

Mod it so Nike steals back all their shoes.
Give me this mod.
Give me this mod.

Can’t wait to play as George Floyd and use his fentanyl power up.

A cynical person would question how Forrest Gump has yet to turn a profit. The entertainment industry plays by a different set of rules.

That’s actually kind of badass. The idea at least. I’m sure the gameplay will suck.

I don't get the thought process on deciding on this premise.
I mean, sure, The British Empire was notorious for stealing shite that wasn't theirs (like our forefathers' taxes). That said, is this really a compelling story?
These things are better when they're not set against real world politics, because unless you're shooting Nazis in 1944 Germany, it's rare that you'll get enough universal support to make a game a hit.
Better to have them finding artifacts in some made-up country that, at best, only vaguely resembles a real world one.

They tried booking vacations to Wakanda in 2017, FFS.

Because their primary interest is job creation, and the premise needs to qualify for funding.
"Because we're trying to create a more diverse games studio, it means we're not hiring people who have worked in games [before], because they're all white men, so we can't do it that way,"
“I'm not going to tell their stories, but a lot of my ability to do Nyamakop is based purely on privilege and generational wealth, and the crazy safety net you have.”
"The way we talk about it and frame it, particularly on the continent or in South Africa, is like, 'We lack access to funding!' And I'm like… the network is there. Sithe literally is trying to give people money on the Black Game Developers Fund all the time. We clearly have access to the network to make funding capable. Our problem is, are we making things that are fundable? And that's the context, which also requires funding, but it's a catch-22."

Its not about making money. The agenda trumps everything.

I wonder if it will include a chirping smoke detector?
