I remember my first playthrough spending hours fighting through Oblivion gates because my destruction and blade skills did not keep up with my leveling. I got wise and leveled up speed next playthrough and sprinted through every gate to the sigil stones.
100% chameleon for combat. Invis for just running.

You just broke the game.

The leveling scaling was shite tho.

Stealth taking down an Oblivion Gate without being detected was fun.
eta: Shivering Isles is also the best expansion/DLC I've experienced. Second would be Dragonborn (Skyrim).

Loved tf out of Oblivion. Best game of the series. Back in early 2020 I tried my hand at running it modded. Went through the instructions/mod list that predcaliber.com gives, took me almost an hour and a half to get everything setup. Everything was running fine at first but then I went to kvatch and the game became a slideshow.
I'd like to think that what I was running at the time could handle it (6700k/gtx 1070), but I don't know. Currently running a 5600x/3080 ti and wanting to try for it again but I don't want to risk wasting the time in case I screw something up.

Full mod lists can be a mixed bag. I’ve never used them. Too frustrating to troubleshoot if something goes sideways. I think last time I played Oblivion I was running a total of ten or so mods, most of them minor quality of life fixes.

guild quest content
But you are correct with the rest

Not sure I'm willing to concede that point. The Oblivion Dark Brotherhood quest line is one of my all time favorite quest lines in gaming.

Personally think Dark Brotherhood was the best questline in the main game for Oblivion. Skyrim's was weak compared to it. Never played Morrowind so I cannot say its Dark Brotherhood was better or worse than Oblivion's.

Skyrim's guild quests are lackluster in general, but the Dark Brotherhood quest is embarrassing.
If I recall correctly, I don't believe the DB was a joinable faction in Morrowind. I think they just played a role in the story. But someone correct me if I'm misremembering.

nonsense. by far the best side quest and guild quest content in the whole series
Playing oblivion as a vampire was like crack to my 2006 middle school emo arse

It is essentially the same thing
The reason I like it better than Oblivion's is because you are actually changing the political landscape of the land. You feel like you have changed something. . .and there is a ton of obscurity about whether you are doing good or ill

I’m gonna have to go back and play it again, I was probably too young to appreciate it when I first played
Thieves Guild and DB in oblivion were both mesmerizing for my 7th grade self

Technically a different faction, but I understand where you're coming from.
I mean, it's interesting as far as the dynamic you're describing, but the Dark Brotherhood questline in Oblivion is more personally interesting, in my opinion.
In my first playthrough, I was a little underleveled, which meant it took me a bit of time to...
*** Spoilers for a great Oblivion quest below, though I'll try to keep it vague. If you haven't played Oblivion, stop reading ***
...kill each person during the purge. Their combat dialogue, showing confusion, betrayal, and heartbreak, blew my mind. I had never experienced anything like that before. When I finished the quest, I saved the game and shut off my computer. That's how much it affected me in the moment. And then later, when the questline turns... *chef's kiss* Just incredible stuff, especially for back then.

It is essentially the same thing, an assassin's guild. But the Morag Thong are direct enemies of the Dark Brotherhood.
The Dark Brotherhood are the bane of your existence if you install the Tribunal expansion early. You basically attacked by a superpowered assassin every time you try to rest.
After this thread, I think I need to download Morrowind again and mod the shite out of it. I'm surprised that Bethesda hasn't released a remaster. Guess we'll have to wait for the independently developed Skywind mod to be finished.
