he's too busy writing compendiums on each family of Westeros

Any recommendations on a third playthrough build? I’ve mostly done melee greatsword tank runs

Maybe anything but a greatsword tank?

Try a bleed build if you haven’t

This is what I was leaning towards. Magic may be too much of a learning curve for me

giant axe, large club, havels tooth are fun.

the "problem" with magic and faith builds, which isnt a problem really in the context of the game, is that you have to do questlines for important NPCs to get the good spells. And they come later on. Specifically, the caravan that pops at Firelink Shrine after opening the shortcut in the church, and Big Hat Logan who appears throughout the game in odd places

way easier to just pick up a weapon and start swinging. Sorcery and Faith take planning.

I think pyromancy even requires a quest at the very bottom of blighttown, to get the best pyro spells and glove

edit: appears im in the wrong thread.

My first playthrough was also a pure strength build, although in late game I really started to struggle, so I "cheated" and respec'd so that I could use the blasphemous sword to finish the game. Felt a little cheap but I did what I had to do. I ended up speeding through the mandatory bosses for NG+ and NG+2 in order to get platinum but it was all mostly that same build.

My second full playthrough was a dex build and bleed focused. Again, kinda cheap but it was really really fun.

My third full playthrough that I finished not too long ago was a magic focused melee build. I used some spells but ultimately still mostly fought melee. I think the weapons of focus were: used the grafted sword a lot in the early areas, and then used the Darkmoon Greatsword, Starscourge Greatswords, and the Ruins Greatsword in the second half of the game. Rotated between them depending on the situation and what was needed.

Ultimately, I have the most fun throwing around the greatswords and colossal swords, but enjoyed mixing in some spells on occasion.

Check out my previous post - specifcally the build I used in my third playthrough. This might be up your alley

we are talking Elden Ring here, although the gist of your post still applies

nah it’s easy. You don’t have to go pure mage with spells only. Can use a magic sword like Sword of night and flame and have a few spells used for buffs/cleanse

So there’s another interview out there in Japanese that’s been translated. Couple things I took away from it:

-Seems to imply that messmer is one of marika’s offspring
-DLC doesn’t take place in the future or past, it’s the same timeframe as the main game. The veil looking thing by the tree in a lot of the shots kinda hides this land from the rest of the lands between
-Of the 8 new weapon types, at least 3 were shown in the trailer. He mentions martial arts fighting style weapons, thrown weapons where the weapon is only thrown but I guess not as a consumable, and sword and shield type which I’m guessing is similar to the champion gravetender weapon in ds3

ETA- almost forgot potentially the most important part. Miyazaki says “DLC development is not quite completely finished.”

Keep in mind that this was translated from a Japanese interview with Google translate so some of this could be a little bit off with the meaning

Yeah, this lore theory seems spot on:

I’ve always been on the theory that Melina is represented by smoldering since she serves as the kindling

Mine was the Envoy's Longhorn. That thing just melts big enemies and bosses. It was kind of a pain in the arse to get though because there is only one enemy that drops it and I think there's only like a 4% chance of him dropping it.

It's either this or the great mace for my pre-DLC playthrough. I just want to bludgeon everything to submission.
