I was able to get through his first phase pretty consistently with minimal or no damage, but the fight was taking entirely too long. Would take me roughly 1.5-2 minutes to take out first phase, so the 2nd phase was just getting so tedious to learn

This is me right now. But I’m not switching off the BHF. I’m stubborn and will stick with one weapon for the whole run and that’s what I’m determined to do right now. This 2nd phase has some attacks I am having a hard time figuring out

Are you using the jump attack on it? It’s really good. I liked the skill has some hyper armor on the finesse. I got tired of the BHF so I switched to backhand blades for a majority of the game.

Jump r2 wasn’t really doing anything to help so I got off that and used charge attacks. That would never stagger so I’ve been using bloodflame blade to get bleed procs faster

I think I’m close to getting him. Last night I did a couple rounds of only dodging phase 2 with no attacking. Started doing a lot better. It’s still gonna be a slog though because there’s only a couple of his attacks that let me punish with 2 hits of BHF

absolutely

I'm a late comer with the Souls games, never able to click with the earlier ones, even Bloodborne, but Dark Souls 3 finally grabbed me and I'm close to finishing that for the 3rd time. Elden Ring took a while for me to finally dig into but I'm approaching 90 hours on my initial playthrough of the base game and I still keep finding things that blow my mind.

To that point, I have beaten 2 main bosses the last couple of nights, even the one you have to beat to unlock the DLC, but my progression percentage hasn't moved past 33% in a long time. I love open world games but I would like to see some progression in this game. Does that percentage mean anything? What moves it along?

I have probably about 100 hours in the base game and beat all the bosses. guess i'll have to dust off the cobwebs and relearn everything

i did hear somewhere the shield builds are very strong in the DLC which my character is.

There’s a new shield weapon category. It’s like a hybrid shield that you attack with. I haven’t messed with it at all though so someone else may be able to speak to it better

I just one shot Margott. I feel I was a tad over leveled but I'll take it.

Fingerprint with scholar shield plus a thrusting sword. I feel dirty but it works. Works great for one particular boss.
