Every review does pretty much disagree with me. 
The fact about this game is that I love the course designer, the game play is good but it just doesn't have licensed PGA players and equipment. I enjoy the game of golf more so than the PGA Tour.
So at 11.55 it's definitely a buy. For a guy that just loves golf it was a buy at full price for me.

I certainly don't care about the players etc. hot shots golf is still the best golfing game imo

I agree with Rig. This game doesn't have players, equipment or attribute differences. It's all about making and shaping shots — and it's a real test of your skill if you play with other people online. Everyone's on a level playing field, it's just a matter of how good you are. Lot of touch and muscle memory involved in this.
And the course designer, although I haven't played with it yet (seems like it would be a lot better to do with a PC/Mac than a console) makes for thousands of courses instead of the handful you get with EA's game. Sure, they aren't licensed, but you can find some lookalikes that are insanely accurate and some original courses that are stunning.
It's a fun way to kill some time by yourself, and it's ridiculously fun when you play against other people online, either live or with ghost balls.
