Bought my boys a Xbox Series X and EA College FB 25 for Christmas. It freezes up every time they try to play it.

Found a few articles that discuss changing the display settings, but none of that works for us.

Im a total novice when it comes to these gaming systems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Xbox series X 2TB with disk drive
Physical copy of the game

Make sure the disc isn’t in upside down

Uninstall then reinstall it.

If that doesn't work do a hard reset on your machine. Remove the power cable for at least 30 seconds then plug it back in.

Sounds like you have a cached service keeping the game from starting.

It freezes at various points, but we can’t even start playing a game. It’s absolutely not playable. It just boots us back to the dashboard

We’ve tried both of those. Even tried it on a different tv bc the first one is older. I didn’t really think that would make a difference, but figured it was worth a shot

Have you checked for any system updates? It's in the settings menu.

If it shows up to date then I would call Microsoft Customer Support.

Do any other physical copy games work? Might be an issue with your disk drive.

I’ll check for updates, but I’m pretty sure that it searched for updates when we did the initial startup Christmas Day.

I had the same thoughts about the disk drive. Even thought about purchasing a digital copy to see if it works. This is the only disc we have

Do you have a heat ventilation problem?

I don’t think so. The console is sitting on top of a TV stand. It’s not tucked into a cabinet or shelf or anything like that

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this. Sounds like either a defective disc or console. Hopefully contacting customer support won't be hell.

Have you tried another physical game? To rule out if it's disc or console issue.

No, still having problems. Completely uninstalled and reset the console. Purchased the digital version. Tried a wired connection.

The digital version doesn't work either??? Man that's wild. You should definitely be contacting Xbox support.

Yeah, I’m reluctantly planning to do. Not looking forward to it

Never had to do that before. With any system ever. Interested in what they say.

If you bought it as a Christmas gift, you should still be in an extended holiday return window. Go and exchange both and you’ll probably be fine. Microsoft warranty stuff takes forever, make that a last resort.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll probably try that instead of MS/Xbox help

Not sure where you bought it but I highly doubt you’ll run into any issues doing an exchange. That’s a weird issue.

Update for those who may be interested:

Returned it to Best Buy with no issue.

Bought a new Xbox Series X 1TB Digital-only model. Seems to be working fine.

Thanks everyone for your advice and/or suggestions
