A lot of areas will have enemies that are too tough for you to fight initially. Once you level up your character a good bit, you should be able to go to those areas again and have a much easier time.

Yeah, post-game is almost unplayable the first time around. I'm sure after a second story run I'll be able to beast on some baddies

I've played a couple more hours, and it still seems kind of boring. What am I missing? Does the combat get significantly more exciting?
eta: Okay, so I played a little longer, and some of these battles get pretty intense. It's starting to be a lot of fun.

Yeah it gets a lot better as the game goes on. Once you get to the main city and start to explore the wilderness around it, you get into some intense fights. Chimeras are especially intense at the start.

Yep. I'm glad I didn't dismiss this early on. I'm having a blast with it. Level 32 sorcerer
