Shreier is reporting that Blizzard had a Diablo 4 announcement trailer ready to go at Blizzcon, but pulled it at the last minute.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. On the one hand it feels like a damage control leak.

On the other hand if they had it planned what in the world were they thinking to drop it entirely (or how little faith did they have in the current state of development to not commit to it)?

They never should have announced this on it's own. That's where they messed up. This should have accompanied a D4, D2 remaster or at least new D3 character announcement... Something, not just a mobile game. I don't know how they thought this would go over well.

Blizzard stopped being blizzard when Activision bought it. I should have known better have the whole jay Wilson debacle with the D3 launch nothing would change

basically breaks down in a level headed way how bad blizzard botched this and has left the long term diablo fans in the dust for the money in mobile gaming. i'm still watching it

eta: cash grab in Asia is the bottom line

BUY! This mobile game is probably going to make a killing besides what we say over on this side of the pond.

A big part of it is people waking up to the fact that old Blizzard is officially dead. They have been for quite awhile now but the most ardent fanboys were blind to it. Diablo Immortal's announcement was a bunch of people finding out Santa Claus wasn't real.

It's impossible for any large publicly traded multi billion dollar corporation to have a soul. That's not how it works.

Realizing that these mega-corporations don't give a shite about making quality games or long time customer loyalty can be jarring, particularly as Activision/Blizzard has played a much better PR game than EA, conning their fans into thinking they actually gave a shite.

They recently came out and there top talent was working on multiple mobile games across ALL their IP's and that mobile was going to be a major focus for them going forward.

Welcome to a world where Candy Crush gets to dictate future game design.
