Apparently Kojima Production has taken control of the IP rights. Directors Cut on sale for 50% off.

As a massive Kojima fan...I hated this game. Everything about it. I thought I could tolerate the gameplay for a killer story and quirky Kojima narrative, but the writing ended up even worse than the gameplay. Trash

For a completely opposite take from Carson...
This was my first Kojima game (other than PT) and I thought it was amazing. There are some "Kojima things" that really annoyed me (some cutscenes are just way too long and the ending is a bit odd), but everything else was just awesome.
I loved the gameplay loop of traversing the terrain, building roads and other structures, and delivering packages, and I found it to be quite relaxing (on the lower difficulty levels). The world is also beautiful.
Plus, the music is PHENOMENAL. The way he uses songs to really punctuate moments was incredible. One band in particular that's heavily featured, Low Roar, has become one of my favorites. Unfortunately the lead singer passed away after the game was released, but a new album is coming out soon with some previously unreleased songs, so I'm hopeful that they'll appear in DS2.

We can agree on this. Early on there's a song that plays on your journey back to your first base and I thought "oh man, this game is gonna be the GOAT"
All the trailers that Kojima cut and released before the game were so good, I was consumed by them lol

Enjoy, XBox gamers. I went out of my way to get platinum for this game.

I feel like if I every want to finally play through this game, I will need to start from the beginning and stick with it. I'll play a few hours, drop off for a while, and then attempt to dive back in and completely forget how to play the game.

I've also never played any of his other games aside from P.T., but I think Death Stranding is one of the best big-budget games in decades.
Really looking forward to the sequel, and in the meantime I have SnowRunner if I want something similar.

I thought this was already on Xbox. Man I really enjoyed this game. It's beautiful, the gameplay loop is enjoyable, the game can be relaxing as well.
I was hooked on this game for weeks when I got the directors cut.
Beat the whole game without taking any weeklong breaks like I sometimes tend to do if a game burns me out. I have recently gone back and started a new playthough when I need something to fill that niche. The story is very good, although I didn't enjoy all the cutscenes you have to sit through before the game really gets going.
This game is either a 10/10 or a 9.5/10
Apparently a lot of the features I enjoyed were only part of the directors cut version and not included on original release.
Give the snowboarding a try as well.
