After playing Elden Ring, I seriously doubt Dark Souls would offer any real challenge.

there's a lot of truth to this. Elden Ring has a ton of really fast bosses. Dark Souls not so much. I've done 3-4 complete NG playthroughs in Elden Ring so I'm guessing the practice there has led me to gettting through DS1 pretty easily.

For a good laugh, look up "Dark Souls Logic" on YouTube.

If that’s the video with folks acting out the ridiculous happenings from a dark souls game then yeah….incredibly funny and well done

VLDL has a whole host of series making fun of logic in various games and even logic in D&D itself.

Are you doing a fresh playthrough for the DLc? If so…what build are you considering?

I can never resist the temptation of using the biggest heaviest weapons that I can find, so in my third new character that I ran last year I did a Int/Strength build that was a lot of fun.

We ran all bosses including dlc. Strength build with Demon's Greataxe. Bonks for everyone.

Eta: you meant Elden Ring...great mace with cragblade... it's like swinging a massive baseball bat. I love it.

Demon’s Greataxe has never been my jam. If I’m going unga bunga, I generally go Large Club.

But if I want to straight shred the game, I suicide into the catacombs for the great scythe. If you’ve never done a Grim Reaper playthrough, I highly suggest it

during this replay that I started the thread for, I decided to make a run at Platinum. Of course, I made this decision after finishing the Gwyn fight in NG and certainly missed some things that I normally would have tried to get in a NG run. That's ok. Took copious notes of what I had left to get and what items/materials I needed in order to get them.

Just finished NG+ last night. In NG, Gwyn was ridiculously easy and I didn't do the parry method. Just dodged and whacked him with my Black Knight Axe +5. In NG+ I couldn't get it done so finally started practing my parries in each run up through the 5 black knights. Took me a couple of hours to be able to string together 5 good parries in a Gwyn fight, but I managed to do it.

I never bothered collecting sun medals or souvenirs of reprisal so NG++ will be focused on those. I think 3 of my last 4 trophies needed can be accomplished by farming those items, plus I need to get the Sif Soul again for the third weapon.

Everything about NG+ was much easier than NG except for Gwyn. NG++ is going even better and feels like one of those Joshjrn runs where I can finish the game in just a few hours if I didn't have to worry about getting these damned items.

Make sure to look up where you can pick up medals, etc, in the world. Won’t get you a ton, but for example, the three in the chest across the hall from the AL Solaire bonfire could save you 20m from your life you’d never get back

And yeah, as a general rule, I find NG+ to be easier, particularly early game bosses like the gargoyles. The one exception is that you have to understand positioning for the Four Kings, because their HP will outpace your ability to do damage, so you will reach a point that you won’t be able to help but have two, or even three, kings on the field at once. It’s doable, though, especially if you “attack through” the death animation to get some extra damage in.

do the sun medals and sounvenirs of reprisal get removed from you inventory after beating Gwyn and progressing to the next NG+ run? Because I swear I got some of both in NG but they were no where to be seen in my inventory during NG+. Maybe I turned them in at the appropriate places but not enough to level up in the covenants and forgot about it.

It's also possible I traded sunlight medals to snuggly for upgrade materials during NG before I made the decision to go for platinum.

If I did in fact submit some to the covenants then hopefully my farming of medals and souvenirs won't be as tedious. Need to up my item discovery and kill a ton of bird men and maggots otherwise.

I don’t believe they are considered key items, so they should carry over, but it’s not something I’ve ever looked to confirm.

I want to say you get credit for them if you turned them in as well. I want to say I grabbed sunlight spear really early in a NG+ run once.

I really hate farming in this game. Probably spent 2 hours the other day trying to get sun medals from the chaos bugs and had item discovery maxed at 410. Didn’t get one medal. Gave up and turned the ps5 off. Tonight I tried again and had an idiotic moment where I died twice and lost my 10 humanity (had spent 30 humanity on another covenant previously so the 10 I lost were the last ones). Went to the chaos bugs with 300 item discovery and ended up getting what I needed after 10 runs through the bugs.

Now I’m doing the same with the damn bird men in the painted world

Yeah, it fricking blows. It’s part of the reason I never 100% a game, no matter how much I enjoy it. Just seems like a recipe for making me hate it

I know I got the 30 sunlight medals for sunlight spear, and think I stopped at 10 souvenirs to get the dark moon talisman. And if I recall correctly, I think I used sunlight spear to farm those weirdos, but I’m not certain at this point.
