Is it worth 9.99?
Never played series before, is it necessary that i play 1 first?
Thanks in advance.

I would say so. World design is leaps and bounds better in 1 and 3. If you can catch these on sale, they are well worth it.
Build diversity is fantastic in 2. The environments are okay, but the color palette is a bit washed. There are some really good boss fights. But I feel they ramped up artificial difficulty in 2. If it wasn't for the benchmark 1 set, 2 would be more positively received.

Yes. Easily the worst game in the sekiroulsborne series, but still a good game

Despite being numbered 1, 2, and 3, the Dark Souls games have really nothing to do with each other. They are somewhat set in the same universe, but separated by extremely large periods of unknown time to the point the world's bear little resemblance to each other. Direct story telling is not really what Dark Souls games do anyway.
3 has more elements of 1 than 2 does.

Final Note: Despite being a great game, Dark Souls 2 is almost universally considered the weakest "Soulsborne" game FromSoftware has made and that's def. my opinion as well. I have them all and have played them all a ton, it's my favorite style of game.
One of the biggest draws of Dark SOuls games is the world itself, and Dark Soul's 2 world is not nearly as interesting as the other games.
For fans of the FromSoftware style, you obv should play DS2, however
Dark Souls 1
Bloodborne
Sekiro
Dark Souls 3
Demon Souls
Dark Souls 2
Is my personal ranking of the notable FromSofware titles.
They are all great and all worth getting and playing, but it's still worth mentioning that DS2 is still bringing up the kaboose.

Artificial difficulty was definitely the biggest issue with DS2. There were too many enemies and it felt like they did a lot of things that were bullshite and random. It has some good boss fights but for every good boss fight there are 2 or 3 that are bad design or just dull. There were too many of them. The game reeks of "let's give the fans more dark souls".
It's not a great souls game, but it's still a very good game.

Yes, it’s absolutely worth 9.99 and you don’t have to play 1.
Dark Souls 2 tried to do something different. It’s a good game, but not quite as good as 1 and 3.
