City of Heroes/City of Villians shutting down

I think a few people on here play/used to play it.
Maybe a few people on here might sign a petition:
Petition to save game
If nothing else it might change your mind about buying NCSoft's Guild Wars 2. I know it did for me.

Petition to save game
quote:
City of Heroes has been around for years now (around seven), and the community is still strong as ever. On August 31st, Paragon Studios was given the order to cease all operations and start shutting down the game--effective immediately. There was no build up to this order, no press conferences, nothing. The game will be officially shut down November 30th, 2012.
The only ones that seem to want to have City of Heroes shut down is NCSoft themselves. The community isn't ready for this, and neither is the development team; who is getting shoved out into the cold. City of Heroes is not responsible for the loss in NCSoft profits--other games are.
This petition is to stop NCSoft from shutting down the game and let many of its players keep their favorite game going! The players--and developers--are not prepared to see this game go down.

So you are mad they are not supporting a free to play game that isn't financially beneficial to them?

Something will happen. The community is dedicated.
I'd argue CoH was almost as important as EQ to MMO's, surely one of the best experiences of the decade in the genre.

Eh, companies cut fat all the time. The way they did it WAS crappy, but support ANet, not NCSoft.
Also, you're robbing yourself of a game that has a TON in common with CoH actually, since we never got a CoH sequel.

1. I am a subscriber.
2. They released a new expansion pack on August the 23rd, then announced the game was shutting down on the 30th. Douche move.
3. I am upset a game I really like is going away. Screw you.
Yeah, I might soften my stance on GW2 eventually. Right now just going to finish out my time there. Also might try sekrit wurld (after a few months; I find waiting a bit allows new games to work out a lot of the post-live bugs).

Why even try another MMO?
It's a stagnant genre, and it's been stagnant for years.
Secret World was released as a disaster, by a company that had to restructure right after release due to financial issues. The game might not even be around in a year.
As much as WoW did for the genre positively, it pretty much killed the genre in terms of success for other companies. WoW is so big and developed that it's pretty much impossible for other companies to match their amount of content and quality before they run out of money during the development process. And, as seen with SWTOR, people aren't going to sit around and wait for a game to get up to snuff. They will leave and not come back.

What server did you play on?
Freedom
@Trace
@Trace II
I mostly PvP'ed and better than anyone on this board.
Sadly it was sudden even though the game was on its last leg. Ppl were still buying a shite ton of content on the Paragon Market.
I have played the game since December 2005, on and off.. I can hardly remember a time when I didn't play CoX.
Please help out the community guys, sign the petition.. you know you are all bored.
PS: I played all ranged toons but was going to make my first melee toon since ET was nerfed when BIO Armor dropped.

Almost all Pinnacle, though I think I have 1 or 2 on Freedom (it's like a requirement right?)
I "think" it's @Dranng (2 n's)
Never much PvPed on CoX, even though I love PvP (AC-Darktide was my first MMO experience, then Shadowbane, WAR, now enjoying SWOR PvP warzones). CoX was just sort of my fall-back "relaxing" have a fun time MMO. Never will there be a character creator with so many visual options. It was stupid good.

I still have this game unused somewhere.
I received it as a gift 7 years ago, but my old lappy couldn't run it.

MMO's do not have to be as big as WOW to be profitable, and just because a game doesn't kill WOW doesn't make it a failure.
LOTRO is not a failure. EQ2 is not a failure. SWTOR is not a failure as long as they are making money.
WOW was the perfect storm at the perfect time. I doubt you will see another WOW. Too many options out there now.

They keep developing MMOs, so that should tell everyone that they are making money or anticipate profiting in the genre. If they didn't, they wouldn't make the games.
These games were profitable with a couple hundred thousand subscribers only 10 years ago. I don't think that changed all that much and there are a lot more users playing them today than ever.

Yeah that IS a mess. And their cash shop is ridiculous. But actually, it's a good game.

Was my server of choice. Played there for 5 years.

Not early on, but now.....it exemplifies all of the worst things about the genre. So much promise, such a great game, now a shell of its former self.
