Oh don’t worry. The game will have you covered in that department pretty quick. You don’t need our help.

In all seriousness, the game is literally just memorizing your environment and the proper tools you need to conquer the landscape that you’re surrounded by. Pretty much like you’d have to do in real life.

If it’s raining, you can’t climb walls well at all to the point you might as well not do it unless they’re about 7 feet tall. You have a stamina meter and can jump instead of relying on ledges to trigger a jump mechanic like in the past. There are enemies right out of the gate past the first area that are gonna kick your arse all over the place if aren’t careful and hide.

If you’ll remember Jurassic Park 3 and what Mr. Kirby said about his son’s hypotheses of the dinosaurs’ locations on the island, it can be applied very easily here. Until you’ve got some really good weapons and armor, stay away from the fricking middle of the map.

That’s all I’ll say without spoiling anything. Do NOT go into the middle of the map unless you’re axtively trying to unlock the tower and then scram.

Stone Talus - hit the ore thingy on their head/back.

Lynels - learn to parry, dodge/flurry. Arrow to their face stuns them. Climb on their back like a horse and get 5 free hits in (does not degrade your weapon)

Make money - kill animals as you come across them. Spam cooking all your meat (5 at a time) until your inventory is full. Sell them. Don’t sell other shite like gems because you need a shitton to upgrade armor at fairy fountains.

Use bombs to one-hit kill skeletons, animals, chu chus. Saves on arrows and weapon degradation.

You can max out your weapon, shield and bow carrying capacity by collecting 441 Korok Seeds and trading them in to Broccoli Man.

Doesn't sound grindy at all

Unlocked one tower, cleared two trials. Need the old dude's warm shirt.

Not bad so far. But this level of weapon degradation is dumb.

Yeah it sucks early on, but you’ll get better weapons later on. Just poach weapons from those you kill. All of them are disposable. Have a selection of one-handed weapons for most enemies, two-handed weapons for stronger enemies and a hammer to break ore deposits. Thinking of saving that really cool sword you just found? Don’t bother, you’ll be doing an inventory dickdance before long.

Highly recommend following the main story missions until you end up in Hateno Village. After that, doesn’t matter.

You mean the company that rehashes the same four IPs? Those creative folk? The one that disregards online as an essential component of gaming? The one that has it's head so deeply buried in the sand, it doesn't realize gamers aren't 7 anymore?

But that isn't what this thread is about.

I'm still going through my first play through and my advice would be to try your best to solve everything on your own without looking it up, but if you get stumped don't feel bad googling a walk-through. It's very rewarding figuring something out on your own, but there are some missions/shrines that are really tough to figure out where to go or what to do without a hint. Plus, there are some nice upgrades or perks you might never run across on your own. I just recently re-visited the research lab in Hateno village by accident because I thought it was something else and it turns out I was able to upgrade a bunch of my runes there. I thought I was done with that place in the story, so I never would have gone there again on purpose.

Another thing I'll mention is the game does a good job of letting you solve puzzles or beat enemies in a number of creative ways. Older Zelda games had only one way of doing something. I'll be using a certain strategy against an enemy, then find in a walk through there's a much easier or more creative way to handle them... such as, instead of fighting an enemy straight up you could lure them to a trap (shoot down a honeycomb by them to have them swarmed by bees, or get them near a cliff and use magnesis on a metal box to knock them off the cliff, or find a big boulder up a hill and push it down towards the enemy encampment, etc.) Also, I'm pretty sure I did a lot of shrines in an unconventional way, but still got the job done

Yeah I like that I can clear camps in different ways...rolling a huge boulder into exploding barrels, taking out their watch using stealth, then hitting a group of sleepers with a bomb. Just fun stuff. Makes me think every time I walk up on a camp.

And I don't plan on using a walkthrough for anything. The two trials I finished do a good job making you think, so I feel like they set the tone.

It's good enough so far, I definitely want to see more.

Just stick with it.

I borrowed a friends Switch to start a play through and couldn’t get through two hours. The weapon system is beyond horrible.

I’ve watched people play the game and it looked great, I enjoyed he story, but something that annoying and unnecessary was unplayable for me.

This is the one negative for me right now. I don't mind weapons degrading, but let me at least kill one enemy before it happens. And give me a means to repair. Like Fallout 3. Combine the same weapon to boost condition.

Dude, that’s like 9.34 hours a day for 30 days straight.

You must’ve either been working up some vacation hours or had a lot of 5 hours energy on your hands.
