Not entirely...how it was marketed on the XBL site is kind of dumb. But what's dumber is the outcry over an old code beta that they were just doing data mining and server tests on.

Well, EA has done some other stuff outside of what was mentioned in that article that led to my comment (not giving an advanced copy for review to COD fans). But I guess I read that they over sensationalized the beta.

I don't have a lot of experience with betas, but from what I have gathered, they are usually for the core fanbase who can put the game through the ringer and find issues that need to be fixed. I'm glad they did the open beta, but they just didn't do a good job letting people know exactly what they were playing.
Pre-orders dropped because of it, but like I said earlier, that won't matter much when the final game is reviewed and people see what it can really do.
