What are you playing, and what's your target resolution?

Acer predator. Ive had the 17” for over two years and it’s still a beast. I practically use it everyday. Absolutely no issues, plays any game at high resolution. I think I paid around $1300 for it. But there’s other Acer predator versions out there and based on mine, I would recommend any of their laptops products.

Ok, not knocking your rig, but there is practically no way a
$1,300 gaming laptop from two years ago can play "any game" at "high resolution" in 2021 at anything resembling a reasonable framerate

1080 is fine, I play a lot of different games except mp fish, so basically the best hardware I can get at 1080 for around 1k

The reason I ask game type is because some are more cpu heavy while some are more gpu heavy. At a $1k price point, you’ll be making compromises, so it’s good to have guidance on where those compromises are best made.

What’s your timeline for purchase?

I ask because this gen parts took a while to find their way into laptops, but things appear to be ramping for. For example, this was announced a few days ago, with a release date in early may: LINK

Quite a few stories like that have been either released on the news wire or leaked recently. So if you can wait a bit, there might be merit to doing so.

And for the record, I'm not vouching for that particular device. It hasn't even been released yet, so always wait for reviews. But, it's a good example of laptops finally starting to catch up on RTX 3000/Zen3/etc parts lists. And considering SIs don't appear to be giving any discount for last gen parts in their builds, if you can wait, I would wait.

Jumping in on this thread.

Im in the same boat looking for portability. I play FPS either on playstation or xbox. I play Steam RTS, so dont need high resolution per se.

Mainly looking for something to run my golf simulator in the garage i am building.

Ive been looking at the Dell's and Lenovo's. Also using the
