re: Baldur's Gate 3 (2023)

This game is going to fundamentally change what it means to be a CRPG. Larian has taken the old school Bioware crown and ascended to another plane of existence.

ill be away from my home PC around 10 AM so if anyone is able to start that massive download without problems, let us know.

have a feeling the 150 GB is going to take quite a while considering the popularity and anticipation of this title

did you play as a bard in Early Access? How was it? what does a bard do?

yeah, it's a lot. Pretty fun though. The combat isn't too difficult. I am trying to keep it simple though and just casting big damage spells and buffs. We'll see how long that lasts. I suspect difficulty will ramp up substantially as levels increase.

My early access time consisted of Monday and Tuesday nights. I played a Barbarian just for shits and giggles. I plan on rolling up a Bard today though.

Depending on the game, bards are generally support-type characters. Depending on the game and the player though (see: EverQuest) they can be challenging but successful solo characters.

From DnD lore I think the best way to think of bards is "an almost swashbuckling thief with magic" (a very generalized view). They are a hybrid class that does lots of things fairly well (but never as well as the parent class). They usually have some thief abilities like picking locks, disarming traps and picking pockets, have the ability to dual wield (depending on game) and their songs can harm, heal, buff, charm, etc (again, depending on the game). They are often a Swiss Army Knife sort of character.

Gonna hit install at 10, then go attempt to get some work done for a few hours while it installs.

I've had early access since about a week after it released, so I've played the ever living hell out of Act I. Will be interesting to see what they changed though.
