New season starts tomorrow.
New legend is out.
-Tactical: Has a blink to a throwable
-Passive: Can see high tier loot through walls
-Ultimate: Throws down her staff that opens a shop. She and teammates can take up to two items from it. Items are anything within a certain radius of the ult. This will remove that item from whatever building or bin that it was sitting in.
Mirage buffs confirmed.

I’m interested in playing on PS4. Is it hard for a new player to break in, or is it fairly friendly for new players?
I’m guessing they have micro transactions...is it pay to win, or only cosmetics available for purchase?

There is a tutorial you can do apart from online, and there is also a firing range which is basically a sandbox for you to practice the different legends and weapons.
Definitely a learning curve when playing online, but the more you play, the easier it gets.
You can buy in game currency, but it's for loot boxes which give aesthetics only (Legend skins, weapon skins, banners, etc...). You can also earn in game points which you can use to unlock the non-base legends.
Other than that, you earn loot boxes the more you play. Loot boxes will give you free skins, banners, etc... You can also buy these loot boxes if you want.
Not sure how familiar you are with the Battle Royale genres of FPS.

My son plays fortnite on his switch. I’ve played a few matches and get the battle royal setup. Wasn’t sure if this one was the same with the micro transactions, sounds like it is (for the most part).

It's the same in that it's a battle royale. You drop, you loot, you kill people and take their shite for better loot 
Apex is a lot less "cartoony" though and it's very run and gun.
There is no solo mode. Only Trios and Duos.
Right now, there are two different maps. Normal mode, they rotate. Ranked mode plays the same map all season (I think)
Not sure how the rotation will work in the upcoming season, which starts tomorrow at noon central time.

The game is not that hard. You have to learn the recoil of the guns but that’s about it. The hardest part is getting 3 decent players on the same platform in a party. If you play with randoms you won’t have fun.

Designer note: Given the power of quick repositioning in Apex, being able to use Pathfinder’s Grappling Hook multiple times in a fight is both too powerful and muddies combat legibility.
The cooldown for Grappling Hook has been increased from 15 seconds to 35 seconds.

I saw that. They also gave Mirage a pretty good buff. I had a lot of fun playing last night. It wasn’t a sweat fest like it usually is. Maybe a lot of the good players went to Warzone. I’m going to wait a week and see if Loba is worth buying.
