That's the one I have. The only issue is each time you put the games on it, to play them you will have to redownload them to PS4.

I have actually seen it cheaper from time to time at Best Buy.

We have one of those, but 2GB. You leave it plugged into the usb port, and the ps4 simply reads the game from there. You don't have to move game over to ps4 every time you play. Worth having one.

Wait, what? I've never had that issue. Sometimes it has to take a little bit to recognize the drive again or "repair" it because I took it out before the PS4 had completely shut down, but they should always be there with no re-downloading needed.

A lot of people on xbox use ssd's instead of hdd's. Significantly more expensive, but a slight bit faster loading if that matters to you at all.

Just switch out the internal. Screwdriver and a 10 min YouTube video and you’re good to go.

This. Best decision I made was putting a 2Tb into my PS4.

Only downside is that you can’t trade it in to Gamestop after the fact for whatever reason.

IMO also go with an SSD. Some games take much to long loading.

You get slightly more responsiveness in the menu.

So you are saying that you can play the games that are saved on the external and play them directly off of the 4TB external?

When I purchased my external I read all kinds of info and never did I see you could play directly.

If this is true, then this is a game changer for me. My only issue then would be keeping my headset charged. The dongle takes up the other.

Yes. Like sicboy said, as long as it's plugged in, the PS4 knows to read the game info from there. You can even set it up to where games will automatically download to the external

There's a USB input in the back of the PS4. I plugged mine back there and don't even realize it's there

Switching the internal HD for a bigger one is trivially easy.

If you don't want to reinstall and resetup everything on the new one you'll still need an external source to backup existing drive to, then install the new one, and after it's up and running you restore the backup to the new one.

You can't clone the old HD to the new one directly because PS4 formats partitions in a very propriatry way dependent on various things. I originally tried that only to discover you must go through the official backup/restore process through the PS4 menus.

But if you don't mind reinstalling everything from scratch you don't need to worry about that.

Regardless, rember to at least backup you game saves somewhere first (either to cloud or USB drive)

Could be wrong, but I feel like if you have PS+ it automatically cloud saves.

I just remember not having to back mine up on a USB. Can’t remember if this is automatic or if you need to turn this setting on though.

I had a lot of issues with mine, but I had an old PS4 from when they just came out so that may have been the issue. It was only a 500 GB so I got the external hard drive for more space. I downloaded spiderman to it and it froze once while trying to save. Had to manually shut off the PS4 and when I turned it back on it said it needed to be repaired, but the PS4 could either never repair it or it wouldn't recognize it. Eventually just bought a new 1 TB PS4 but it still wouldn't recognize it so I'm thinking the old one might have fried it.

Yeah cloud access is exclusive to PS+ members. I do think there is some sort of setting to automatically do backups so you don't manually have to remember to do them but I don't have that on myself. I still just manually do it every few months. If you're going to be messing with the HD just a good idea to manually do it, both to a cloud and a USB.

Only problem I've had is needing to get a bigger drive every year.
