I know it's not going to have any story but it makes me nostalgic for the old SNES side scrolling shooters like super r type and Gradius 3.

I don't know why I enjoy these type of games so much

I played a lot of Rtype final for ps2.

These games are fun to me because they can be a challenge while still feeling casual.

Absolutely. I backed the Kickstarter campaign. I still think it's funny that they stuck with the April Fool's Day title.

When they asked for votes on which stage from each old game to remake, I knew the one I'd like to see from Delta wouldn't get chosen (stage 5).

I tried the R-Type Final 2 demo the other night. I found it amusing that the ship customization options are almost as elaborate as a modern action RPG.

Disaster Report 4 was my favorite video game of 2020. I'm happy that Granzella has been picking up these Irem properties. Still hoping for the revival of Bumpy Trot 2.

This game is pretty tough, which I guess can be expected from the R-Type series. I like how the difficulty levels are vaguely insulting.

Speaking of which, I noticed that there are significant differences based on the difficulty level you select. The first boss, for example, is drastically different (and worth seeing) on the hardest difficulty.

I don't think the stages have quite as much character as the ones in Final 1 and Delta, but I'm enjoying this game a lot regardless.

The remade stages from older games are great, too, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of those.

Best example of that which nearly happened, but didn't, was the Splatterhouse remake.

It fit in context considering that the terror mask is insulting you the whole time anyway, so having it refer to your (dummied-out) difficulty level of "pussy" at least made sense compared to most games with insulting difficulty levels.

I've reached two of the three endings now, and the more I've seen of the game the more I've come to like it.

One stage in particular (7.1) really impressed me, but there are a lot of good ones.

The fourth set of DLC stages for this game has been delayed for a week because Sony and Nintendo are making them censor the boss from the R-Type 2 level.

I hope this doesn't mean we'll never see the last stage of R-Type Final remade as part of the series.
