I just found this out, so I thought I would share. The BAWSAQ is the market for the GTA community, so everyone playing the game. It is a good idea to invest in Ammunation and Los Santos Customs now becuase the price will only go up from here on out.
The LCN is just for your own personal in-game stock market. This market is affected by things only you do directly. Below are some tips I found:
POSSIBLE SPOILERS
Listen for stock exchange tips on the radio to play the market. Franklin's assassination missions for Lester are a great opportunity to buy as many shares of a particular stock as you can afford, and then sell all of them after the assassination for a huge payoff. Listen closely to Lester's dialogue for trading tips.
Invest in one of the automobile firms, then cruise around destroying your rivals' cars. The end result will see sale of your cars go up and your stocks rise.
Buying cheap stock is a tycoon's dream scenario and to do so in GTA V is easy. Simply apply the reverse tactic to our first tip. For example, if you shoot down a plane the stocks for that company plummet. Buy those stocks cheap then shoot your rivals planes down to re-inflate your stock value.
Buy into guns or ammo in the early days. These stocks should go through the roof as gamers get their hands on weapons.
Listen closely to the radio and character dialogue for stock tips.
Assassination missions provided by Lester always tell you how some stock will be affected if you bump off a rival CEO.

Now, do you buy the stock of the rival company or the company of the CEO you just took out?

Just making sure
I bought low on one company after a certain mission and it never turned around, wonder if the stock patterns are set in stone for the in-game one.

Have you received 100k shares yet?

No shite, butthole. I got the email later on in the game. Check BAWSAQ. It might be there.

Unrelated but while we're on the subject of money, if you buy the junkyard the amount of weekly revenue it makes is determined by how many vehicles are destroyed in Los santos that week.

i've got quite the portfolio. that was one the first things i started fricking with when i got the 1st Heist mission $$$.
I haven't really made shite from the 100k shares from the bicycle guy tho.
I did bank $250k from buying $75k in stocks after listening to Lester talk in a premission cut scene. So my boy Franklin is by far the richest of my 3 characters now.
also, body armor is fricking legit. i'd suggest getting the best body armor jacket you can get before going on a killing spree or doing a dangerous mission.
you can also buy car armor and tires that are resistent to bullets for making getaways almost too easy.

I am reading it hasn't been released in Japan yet so once it does on 10/11, it will only increase stock prices on the BAWSAQ
