quote:Yeah. It’s honestly criminal
It's crazy that we're saying this about the entity that brought us the Arkham games and the Injustice series. Not to mention owning Mortal Kombat. Their games division should be printing money.

The lesson here is the same one from current MCU movies.
Just having a good IP isn't a guarantee. The product itself has to be fun and engaging as a standalone. If it's not, the IP is as much a curse as a blessing. The upside, people pay attention to you. The downside, people build expectations, criticize you if you don't meet them and get fatigued with your IP.
It all cones back to the IP being a money machine people exploit with too much frequency. The need to churn out another product to make money winds up being higher than the number of good ideas for your new product.

Established gaming companies are coming to the end of their life cycle. Too big and too many bean counters to pivot or innovate. Rockstar will be the next to fall which will be sad because I'm really looking forward to Rdr 3.
The three most well received games of 2024 have been AA games in lies of p, palworld and helldivers. They came out of nowhere and grew out of word of mouth.
