Of course machine is out of warranty. Is it worth sending off to get repaired or just buy a new machine?

Question:

Did you go to xbox.com and register your console? If not, do it. If or when you have, try requesting a repair and select the 3 red lights as the issue. My 360 was out of warranty but when I selected the red lights as my problem, instead of the $199 to fix, it was free.

I've done it once with the red lights and once with the E74 problem.

Microsoft extended the warranty for 3 years after the purchase date, so if you fall in that window they fix it for free. If it's been longer than 3 years, you gotta pay $100 for repair or buy a new box, which is where I fall

Should be 3 years since the last time i sent the piece of shite in to get fixed imo, but hey, who's bitter?

My xbox flashed the red ring randomly a week or so ago and shut itself off.

I was able to power it on and it functions normally.

I'm not sure what that was all about.

I like the 360, but I will agree that the hardware failure rate is something ridiculous.

That's what I found out last night. Of course my was 3 years old in January, so I missed that by a month.

I went and purchased a new one. I have read that the RROD problem has been pretty much fixed in the new ones.

$60 is about perfect for a RR xbox. but keep all your cables, hard drive, etc and just buy a used working xbox console only for like 80 or less..

it's actually kind of easy to fix RROD and only cost like 10$ worth of materials.. but did you call microsoft to see if they will extend the warranty since its the red ring of death?
