Some of the preset load outs will give you an idea of good setups. Some good perks for engineers would be..... hard line, cold blooded, and engineer

find combat training then boot camp as iheart mentioned.
this will allow you to play against the computer and other first timers to gain XP, learn the maps, and get unlocks til you hit level 10.
