A few weeks ago a lady brought an outstanding pot of barbecue beans to a party. Had a wide mixture of beans and tasted more vinegar and sweet based. Had the usual onions, green peppers etc. in it too. They were incredible.

Please put your best barbecue beans recipe and any hints or tricks below.

Ranch Style in the can. Just posted in the other thread. Not sure why but it's one I like and no other canned baked beans.

I do have a bean crock and make baked beans in it in the oven using white beans, water, onion, brown sugar, bit of celery and just a small amount of green bell pepper, a ham hock of Tasso or andouille or whatever you have. Dried and soaked beams and cook at about 275 for three hours or so. Use Steens Cane syrup in lieu of brown sugar if you like.

You can do it in a Dutch oven if you don't have a bean crock. Someone gave me the LaCreuset glazed one so I use it.

2 Large cans of Van Kamps beans(@ 2 quarts)
4 cloves minced garlic
4 green onions, minced
1 jalapeño pepper, minced with seeds
3 bay leaves
A few shots of Worcestershire sauce
2 cups of good dark cane syrup (add more if you wish...I do).
Salt and pepper to taste ( I use Tony's )
1 lb of spicy pork breakfast sausage, browned
( or you can use minced BBQ beef or pork, and minced, browned bacon is good)

Brown and drain the sausage. Drain most of the liquid from the beans. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl...adjust Tony's , or salt and pepper to taste. Pour into a baking pan and bake at 325 for an hour, covered with foil, then remove the foil and go another 30 or so minutes. Great to put on the grill, too.

I like to mix in a can of black beans, and maybe a can of white beans, for variation. Damn good.

This is not exact and is a big cheat recipe but here is mine...

2-3 cans Ranch Style w/ jalapeño
2-3 cans of Bush's Country Style
2-3 cans of Bush's Grilling Beans
Cubed ham
Cubed brisket
1 inch squares of fried bacon
Chopped & Sautéed onion & bell pepper
Favorite BBQ sauce
Brown Sugar

I rarely go with the same beans every time, except for the Ranch Style w/ jalapeños...They are a must for me. If it's a big cookout with a big pit I usually just throw them on the grill with the meat...Not over flames though. Also, I like a lot of meat in these beans so I use plenty of what's listed above.

I put a pan of beans in the oven an hour ago. We'll eat 'em at 6. I'm looking to break those bad boys down.

I've got some smoking now in the BGE along with Baby Backs. Added some ends off of a Pulled Pork I did earlier.

I don't measure, but I pick up some sort of Bush's product and add dry mustard, a good bit of molasses, onions, cut in bite size chunks, bell pepper and/or jalapeno, sometimes bacon cooked or raw on top and stir. I cook them on about 275 for at least 3 hours if not longer. The molasses is the key to what I like in baked beans.
