I am going to go with a a favorite from growing up and say Rockey and Carlo's from chalmette to Northeast Houston

A Rocky's in the Pasadena/Baytown area would wreck shite in my opinion. Those areas have the blue collar feel / plant workers that Chalmette has.

What a fun game!

This is easy for me. Right after we moved to Katy post-Katrina, we found a little Mexican restaurant in a corner of a retail strip. Concrete floors, busted up tables and chairs, and the most amazing beef fajitas you can imagine. You Katyites may have been to this place - El Rancho.

It now has a couple of much nicer locations, but the beef fajitas are still as good. We ate there once a week for 6 years. We got to know the owner Marcial very well... probably paid off a couple of his vehicles!

The night before we moved back to NOLA, we had dinner there, and Marcial sat at our table for a good 30 minutes where I begged him, pleaded, etc, for him to allow his son to follow us to NOLA and open up an El Rancho in NOLA. Did not work.

Still make sure every time I am in Houston we go there at least once.

And if I have to send a place to Katy in return, I'd go with Parkway. Houston desperately needs a legit roast beef poboy.

An Indonesian restaurant that does a good Rijstaffel to New Orleans or Metairie.

Sorry LSUFanHouston, but as someone praying for Mex-Mex food to come to New Orleans, strategically I have to reject your plea for Tex-Mex.

Once people get the idea that Tex-Mex is Mexican, the opportunity for real Mexican has been lost.

Let's get the real thing first, OK? As good as the Texas and New Mexico and California variations might be, the real thing is still best of all.
