Yeah, it is pricey. My now husband brought me there on our first date. Bless his heart, I don't think he knew how much it was going to be since he's not from around here but he was very happy with his meal.

I think it's one of the most underrated restaurants in the city. I've probably been about 20 times since they re-opened (never been before Katrina).

The setting is unique...it's an open, casual yet slightly refined, atmosphere. IMO, I think it's definitely ok for bringing a girl for a first date. The veal and fish plates are good. Definitely get the pecan pie and/or bread pudding for dessert. Probably best pecan pie I've had.

My mom's family's been going there since it opened. I remember one time in the early 80s when some chick ran in off the street and a dude chased her in and started beating her. My uncle jumped his shite and held him till the cops came and took him off. Good times....

FWIW, food/atmosphere/service was great, and we got a discount for an hour of bowling afterwards. Overall, very successful night. The veal cutlet was more like a chicken fried steak though. But it was huge, so I was satisfied.

That's actually good to know.

Chicken fried steak was my favorite dish at the old incarnation of this place. I was sad when the new owners took it off the menu.

Looks like I can just go and get the veal cutlet instead.
