WTH is wrong with Floridians and their nasty smoked mullet?

Recently visited with a friend in central Florida and he was ranting about how delicious smoked mullet is. Tried it and nope, they can keep it.

Was it just a smoked piece of mullet by itself? Smoked mullet dip on a cracker with some hot sauce is delicious.

Maybe you got a bad batch. I think smoked mullet is fantastic. In fact, if you're not smoking it, it's largely inedible.

Was traveling the pan handle on 98 and kept seeing Mullet for sale. Told my brother they use a lot of cut bait, must target reds.
Just about the time we turned south around Perry we see, ALL You CAN Eat Mullet” Friday nights. We got a good laugh at that.
Going across the top of Tampa Bay we stop at a flea market and see a smoker. Ask the guy what is in it and he said Mullet, want to try some? Said no thanks and then he asks where are we from. As soon as I said Louisiana I know what was coming.
You eat those mudbugs and you won’t try my mullet!?!?!
I guess I should have at least tried it.

MAYBE his buddies mullet was on fire and he tried to smoke that instead of a fish?

A lot of people in Florida love mullet, but they have to be eaten fresh. The fishing guide I use in Apalachicola swears by them, and he has a steady supply of trout, reds, etc.

If it was Deal's, you missed a great meal. My great grandparents lived in Perry when I was little, and I still go through from time to time. I'll drive out of my way to swing through Perry and stop at Deal's for fried mullet and oysters

The fish in this videolooks good, but I was at least a little shocked at the smoker used by an actual restaurant.

I ate at Ted Peters Famous Smoked Fish near Tampa not long ago and it was awesome
