Just tried the #1 on their list, the Chateau Ste. Michelle 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Columbia Valley WA). I bought two bottles. The first one was mildly corked. The second bottle was delicious. I had a glass with a turkey and muenster cheese sandwich for lunch

I’m surprised Substance CS and McManus Petite Sirah aren’t on this list. Two more great values you can find at most grocery stores.

quote:Just had a bottle of the Substance CS last week. Great bang for the buck as always. McManis is a rock solid producer in the value price range. At least they made the list with their 2020 Viognier.

My two favorite value wines of the year were the 2018 Bogle Essential Red and the 2018 Bogle Petite Sirah. Neither one is on the list. Go figure

Do you care for the Joel Gott Sauvignon Blanc or their Pinot Grigio?

I’ve been drinking the Bogle Cabernet since it was recommended in another thread a couple months back and I really enjoy it as an everyday drinker. I will try Petit Sirah next.

ETA: Caveat: Some years the Gott SB will have a pronounced guava flavor. I don't know why. I don't care for it in those years

Yes it’s really solid. There’s another one called Starborough (sp?) that is my go to. I’ve started experimenting with French whites and there are some good cheap ones. NZ, Australia and South Africa all have great SBs.

I’ve been on an Amarone kick lately

Is there one in the cheaper range you recommend? I know those run expensive.

Absolutely. This one is $33

Fwiw, I tried #6 on the list last night, the Bogle Pinot Noir. I bought two bottles, but have only opened one so far. It was okay. It was pleasant enough, but didn't really look like pinot, taste like pinot, or smell like pinot. I only paid $10 for it, so I'm not complaining. But IMO the Bogle Petite Sirah and the Bogle Essential Red are far superior and cost the same.

Life is too short to drink cheap wine
I regularly spend ~ 5-600/month on wine + 5 wine lists I'm on. Bad and good habit.
For daily drinkers, I'll stick to the 20-30 range and throw in some 50-60 ones.

I think that’s great.

I buy Bottles of the Golan Heights Hermon for Passover every year and everyone loves it.
It is not Passover Kosher and I’m not sure if it’s Kosher Kosher, but I’m not drinking Maniachewitz

Bump - Where is the best place to buy good wine at a good price?

Yep, and save the really good stuff for when the kids visit and special occasions.

What type of good wine? I'm mostly an Italian wine drinker though I do have a fair amount of French and California wines in my racks. I've also been focusing more on trying to get older wines that are still a good value which is a more difficult proposition.

That doesn't really narrow it down. There are dry reds, sweet reds, highly tannic and acidic reds (young), red blends, single vineyard reds, etc. Not trying to be an arse but saying I like red wines is like saying I like meat.
