Anyone get monthly or quarterly shipments from wine clubs? Worth it? Or is it better to just get form stores locally?

I think it depends greatly on what selection of wine is available to you from easy to access stores and what shipping costs are like.

The only wine clubs I consider are from vineyards I know. Personally, I don't have interest in the clubs that send out a bunch of random wines. I've paired it down to one club that I belong to right now and that is Chateau Montelena.

Agree. Or get on mailing list of somm select or last bottle.

If you have a decent bottle shop near you, way better use of your time is to strike up relationship with them, and have them recommend bottles based off things you like or want to learn more about.

this is a fantastic wine club...If you're looking for a great winery, but a little less expensive, look at Titus, Honig, or Davis Estates...fantastic stuff from all of them.

Any idea what the "Ranch" membership runs a year?

The only reason I know that name is because I saw "Bottle Shock" on Amazon Prime this weekend. (The movie was okay, have never tried the wine.)

From a preferred producer, maybe, it just depends. If you can get at retail easily/for similar pricing, it's probably not worth it. But obviously some are more closely allocated and I'm on a bunch of lists (I rarely use my allocations for most).

The only club I'm actually part of is the monte bello collector for Ridge, where I get their estate wines every year and the option to buy monte bello at a cut rate. I only do it to get the Monte Bello.

You might consider clubs available at a local wine shop if you're just trying to get some variety/explore wine.

I belong to the Daou wine club. We joined last September when we were on vacation in Paso Robles. The main reason we joined was to get all the perks that come with it for people who visit the winery. It is a beautiful place and the wines are fantastic. I have just gotten one shipment so far but I am happy with it. They do offer bottles that you won’t find in the regular wine stores around here.

Each shipment runs about $225 plus shipping.
