Why does Kraft shredded cheese have such a stranglehold on supermarkets

Sargento is so much better especially when comparing Parmesan. Yet Kraft is the only thing you fund in places like Walmart, target, kmart. Albertsons is the only place that sells Sargento shredded cheese.
Kraft cheese is fricking garbage

Wal Mart has Sargento, too. At least the one by me. But then...you gotta go to Wal Mart.

Can't stand preshredded cheese because of the cellulose powder. They all kind of taste the same to me.

how many slices do you get in a package of Sargento and how much does it cost? you can get about 8 slices of cheese at the deli for like $2 bucks. have to stand in line usually but it's a much better value especially if you eat a lot of cheese and/or sandwiches.
also, how hard is it to buy a block of decent cheese and grate it yourself?

Don't like preshredded...I'll always choose Cabot over Sargento or Kraft.

You people are serious about your cheese.

I don't really eat much cheese anymore, but if I had to guess as to why, brand loyalty and familiarity is strong with shoppers. I knew a guy who was a lawyer, and his wife also got paid. I forget what she did for a living. Anyway, these were well to do people, and the guy swore by putting kraft singles into his scrambled eggs.

I think you have it nailed down pretty well here. Also consider the size of Kraft Foods and the type of promotional budget they must have. I personally prefer the Sargento but, then again, I can afford it whereas many lower income shoppers can't.

To answer the OP though, I'm pretty sure I have seen Sargento at walmart and I know I have seen it at Winn Dixie.

Consider the conglomerate that Kraft Food happens to be. If a grocer wants access to one brand they must carry the other brands under the same umbrella.

I make my own cheese. You should too.

its not difficult in the least, its surely easier than making your own bacon but its the convenience factor.
if there was a way to package cheese in shredded form without the powder i'd seriously consider it.
