I know what they have and I appreciate it every bit of it. But to act like every time I want a good po boy I have to drive to New Orleans and can stop on every corner gas station for anything better than BR is just someone showing a serious lack of intelligence.
Nail meet head.

I've had a lot of bad (or very mediocre) ones (seafood, roast beef, etc) in New Orleans so I don't believe the corner gas station myth repeated on here.
There are a lot of places in New Orleans that don't overstuff their sandwiches too which make it similar to Baton Rouge.
In Baton Rouge, Acme and even Tommy's Seafood is very similar to what you will get in New Orleans at better places. When I had my place in Baton Rouge, I still had people who told me mine wasn't like New Orleans. I just used to ignore it. I mean I was from the New Orleans area and have eaten at New Orleans poboy shops my whole life before the restaurant and moving to Baton Rouge. I used New Orleans french bread (Leidenheimer's) and I overstuffed my sandwiches just as much as anywhere in New Orleans.

I'm still amazed at how some of you get your panties in a wad over this New Orleans vs Baton Rouge stuff.
Speaking of gas stations, I have to give a shout out to one of my favorite RB po-boys in the N.O. area. King Creole on Airline Hwy is a gas station, but there po-boy is a top 10 (maybe 5) and is a great value.

I used to eat yours all the time and never had a complaint and wish you were still open.

Yep me too. I enjoyed it and was starting to improve toward the end. Especially the last 6 months I was open. My business model favored and relied on wholesale though. I still did wholesale(shrimp, crabs, oysters, frozen seafood, etc.) to other restaurants during the whole time the market was open. Now I just cook for the family which is a lot less stressful.
This last year has been the first time in my life I have not been in the seafood business since I was born. The oil business has been quite the change for me.
