We have had a great year with Specks and redfish so far, but the crabbing was really great and have a freezer full of crabs. I love to use them in stew and gumbo but need some fresh ideas to use them up and make room in freezer for hunting season. I am told BBQ crabs are great and just picked up some BBQ crab seasoning but not tried it yet.
Whats yall's go to whole crab recipes ?

I've had frozen crabs that were thawed and bbq'd and they were excellent. It's pretty easy to do. Here's a good thread on it: LINK

Seems like the best thing to do is mix up some butter with spices, then add that to the cavities so that the meat is seasoned well, since it will essentially cook in that.

I think we also poured some beer in the cavity while they were cooking.

Maybe I just grew up listening to old timers, but I thought crab was one of those seafoods one should never eat raw??

Crabs Barry
1. Partially boil crabs in clean water, not seasoned. Just long enough to kill crabs.
2. Take the tops off the crabs, rip the gills out and clean well. Snip legs off the crabs, can break legs at last joint.
3. Wash crabs and then line them up on large tray.
4. Sprinkle liberally with
a. Cavender’s Greek seasoning
b. McCormick’s season all
5. Light charcoal and allow coals to burn until they are on the “downside.”
a. Let them burn until you can see them get a grey soot covering, not red hot.
6. Before putting crabs on fire, melt 3-4 sticks of butter with 3 lemons and Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce in a saucepan.
7. Place crabs cavity up, close together over the fire.
8. Close the lid on the firepit and cook for 4 minutes only.
9. After 4 minutes on fire, take ladle and pour sauce into the cavity of the crabs.
10. Close lid on the firepit and cook for 3 minutes longer.
11. Remove and eat.

its funny that artie rome guy is bitching that whole thread. I actualyl boil my crabs same way as most bbq them. We put them on ice, then take them out and cut the legs at the knuckle, then pop off the back and clean them.

sure its work, but its a lot better for me to do that and then enjoy the boil than sit there and have to help my wife, sisters etc. plus its a lot cleaner, take seasoning better.

i have done the grilled crabs and when we flip them back with bottom down, we add seasoned melted butter with sauteed garlic and onions mixed with the butter, all over in the cavity. taste freaking awesome.

Clean the crabs like you would for a stew.

"Batter" them in crab boil and fry them for 1-2 mins.

Thank me later.
