Evening Baws, it’s been a minute, cooking steaks currently
FPD is a Sazerac made with JD Barrel Proof Rye
2PD is a 11.5 year MGP 95/5 rye from River Roots. They really are sourcing some of the best barrels that I’ve seen from NDPs. They released an 18 year old MGP 60/36/4 bourbon last week.

FPD after a few Beers….OF OF

Good evening gentlemen. First for me is a little head to head of samples. Thanks Epic. Impressions will follow soon.
Update.
The 121 proof reminds me a bit of Bulleit 12 rye, but is better. There's a good bit of oak, some citrus, and nice rye spice throughout. It drinks under its proof. I've only had oak that prominent in the aforementioned Bulleit and Michters 10 ryes. Impressive. I want one.
The 129 proof is definitely younger than the first. A bunch of peppery, tongue tingling spice and a good bit sweeter. Surely it's a rye too. It drinks at its proof. I think it'd make a really good Manhattan and actually might give it a shot with what is left.
Interested in hearing what they are. Hopefully I at least got the category right! If not, those have to be really high rye bourbons.

The 121.6 proof is an 11.5 year MGP 95/5 SiB rye sourced by River Roots, picked by Cameron Leach (aka Drums and Drams). It’s wild, doesn’t taste like many MGP ryes that I’ve had, nice aged oak and leather on that one.
The 129 proof is a 6 year Sagamore 52/43/5 SiB rye sourced by Evernorth Spirits (aka Bourbon Junkies), but also picked by Cam Leach. I thought this was fantastic for the age and price ($65).

I definitely wouldn't have run across either on my own so appreciate the opportunity to try. How many have you tried from river roots? I would absolutely consider buying the one I just tried, but am curious about consistency of quality across releases.
Re: sagamore sourced, that one definitely came across closer to a bourbon profile with the sweetness so the mashbill checks out. I thoroughly enjoy their stuff in general. For 65, that's a good deal for sure.
Thanks again. Looking forward to trying the Willett sourced stuff soon .

I have 3 of their 11.5 year old ryes, two are more typical profile, I sent you the off profile one. They have one available online in their shop, which I bought and it came out to $133 shipped. Definitely worth it, IMO, but is more on the sweet, herbal side rather than the oaky leather profile that the one I sent to you had. I’m getting a 12 year in the next couple months.
The Sagamore rye almost reminded me of the fruit forward Stagg Jr releases, like batch 15. If I drink it next to an older pour like you did, the youthful corn comes out, but if I drink it next to other “younger” pours it’s not as apparent. This mashbill at 8+ years old will be insane, IMO.

I’m not sure of their sourcing, but after visiting the distillery Willett is the likely one for the bourbon. It is excellent. I found the ryes to be very good, multiple flavor notes and well crafted. ( connected from nose to finish ). I’ll be hosting a tasting next week and will be featuring these three to get other opinions. I really enjoy these. Cheers

Never had K.Luke. I really need to grab a bottle.

IMO, their best offerings are their barrel strength batches (silver labels). I don’t know if I’d get another of their toasted bourbons without trying it first. I need to try another of their ryes.

Good evening gentlemen. Frustrating game so far. It's been a nice run for 4R picks lately. I'm enjoying this one so far. Ton of fruit.
