My friends and I do lots of side by side comparisons with them. It’s always fun to see how different they can be with only small changes. These two are a great example. Same recipe, same warehouse, similar areas, chosen and bottled at about the same time frame. Share some similarities but way different than you’d expect.

I’m new to whiskey at 53 yo lmao, was more of a beer man.... I’ve tried several recently and had fallen in love with yellow label four Roses... but just got a gift certificate for the local liquor store and got the four Roses small batch.
Smooth as yellow label but completely different.... delicious.
I’m having some friends over for steaks next Monday... what bourbon should I get for the occasion?

Surely my store will have one of them.... it absolutely pathetic here . We have three liquor stores in town. Each has a shelf 12’ wide by 6’ tall... last week I was standing there looking at the choices and trying to look at stuff y’all post pictures of and the guy behind the counter said “ can I help you find something?” I replied “ na , I can see all of it from here.”

Price really isn’t important. If you find a Buffalo Trace store pick, get it, always good, and it’s $20. An Eagle Rare store pick is about $35, grab it if you see it (plus the bottle is beautiful).
Stick with single barrel stuff, you usually can’t go wrong with them.
My favorite small batch for under $50 is EHT (Colonel Taylor, in a tan tube). You cannot go wrong.

With $200 I’d want quantity with some quality. I tend to drink everything I buy.....quickly.

$20-Jim Beam White Label Bottled in Bond
$20-Buffalo Trace
$30-Eagle Rare
$35-Willet
$45-Isaac Bowman Port Finish
$50-Old Forester 1920

If you get BT, make sure it’s a store pick (single barrel). A garden variety BT is nothing special, pretty much a mixer.
A store pick will have a sticker like this
