What would you recommend I try for my very first one?

Something that I can get at Calandro's or anywhere in BR.

Chimay? Unibroue? Something else?

Chimay would be a good choice... especially if you can find the variety pack that has all three styles and a glass.

Westmalle is at Calandro's and is also good. I like St. Bernardus as well, I've seen packs of their beer with 4 styles and a glass. I'm a sucker for those.

And Unibroue is also pretty awesome, some of the best Belgian-style ales you can find.

I just got the email...Anybody in the Alexandria or Lake Charles area can try the St. Bernardus double and triple at the Hokus Pokus' this friday. It good because it's free.

Pilsner Urquell... which I hear is 10x better fresh over there.

I like it here, but I rarely order it or pick it up, many better choices usually.

Never been much of an IPA fan. will drink it though. Lately i've been drinking pale ales and any kind of wheat brew.

Late to this party it seems, but...

For me, its hard to define a favorite style for all occasions. Depending on the situation, weather, etc., the beer I'd prefer changes wildly. Coming in after a ton of yardwork in the summer a crisp pilsner is where I'll go. In winter I lean towards porters and IIPAs. I do love American PAs and IPAs though, so if I absolutely had to pick a style and stick to it forever, it'd probably be one of those.
