They high AF right now, I bought 30 females a couple weeks ago and they were $60. #2s, I normally get them for $14-18 a dozen. I'm not sure what you call a hamper.

Back in my youth, crabs could be bought in a wood slat basket with a matching top that locked in by the thin metal handles. A hamper of crabs usually had 5-7 dozen crabs in them depending on size.

In the mid 70's, a buddy of mine who ran two 1/4 mile crab lines out in Lake Pontchartrain would sell hampers of crabs for $30-$40 each when he got back to the launch, depending on size.

Yeah, those were the good old days.

current prices on live crabs as of 2 weeks ago

LIVE CRABS
Smaller crabs
$75.00 bushel

#2 live crab
$135.00 bushel
$70.00 1/2 bushel

How Many Crabs Come in a Standard Bushel or Half Bushel?

Given how large crabs get, a bushel tends to be around 45 to 60 crabs. Naturally, the larger the crab the less fit. By the dozen, this means about 6-8 dozen crabs.

A half bushel is 22-30 crabs.
