Unfortunately, I never really got to go to expensive restaurants as a kid.

Me neither. Until I got to be 15 or so, it was Sonny's Barb-que for special occasions and the trips to McDonalds ar Pizza Hut every now and then. My mom always cooked.

Same here, except there was no Mcdonalds and the only Pizza we ate was from Wesley's or an occasional trip to Shakeys...............mmmmmmmmm Shakeys Pizza.........

Shakeys always had that fantastic smell in there. It was always dark as well, probably a good thing!

As a kid, I would have to say the Shoney's Big Boy in the Colonial Shopping Center @ Airline/Hollywood St.(was a different place back then...).

First real fine dining experience was at Jack Sabin's for prom one year. I could NOT believe that 5 fricking shrimp cost 20 goddam dollars!!!!

Jack Sabin's became "A Taste of China" about 20 years ago, it just recently changed names.

Had one in Jackson Ms. when I was a kid. When we made the trek to town, it was a great place to go. I do remeber the "exotic" smell on a cold night.

In todays world of fast, fast, fast, I sure wish we had an option similar to what Shakey's was. There is not any place like it anymore. Large open dining room with 40' long rows of tables, old flicks playing of Laurel & Hardy or Little Rascals, old timey live Dixieland musicians. Thin, crispy crust Pizza.........It was sheer heaven on Earth for a kid!!!

And you thought that drunk could really play the piano...

I thought everyone knew the banjo player was the only one with any talent.

Unfortunately, I was in the "friend zone." Only pu$$y I got that night was when my cat curled up next to me when I got home.
