I have lived in New Iberia for 46 years and never knew that cabin existed! Looks like a nice getaway

Thinking about bon Creole for lunch today.. What's their claim to fame item to get? Not a fan of crawfish so that's out

It was legit. The owner was super nice. She let me use her canoe and pirouge. I took the pirouge out past downtown. I tied it up and caught part of the 4th of July celebration. Then took it back down the bayou a little passed the big bridge but the Mexican restaurant.
The next morning I was sitting on the dock dipping my toes in the water and saw a gator.
I meant to go canoeing again but was tired after going and seeing all the plantations and stuff Saturday.

It's far from the prettiest place but the poboy was excellent

they were closed the two times I passed by. Apparently the July Fourth weekend is a Horrible time to visit New Iberia as everyone shuts down that weekend.
I only got to try Victor's Cafeteria, Rip Van Winkle (they has a ghost leave a mark on the glass the night before and people were taking pics left and right) and Mexico Lindo. We cooked steaks on the BGE one night and made a pasta dinner the other night. We had set up a table and chairs on a bluff on the bayou and that became our eating spot.
table at Rip Van Winkle Gardens

breakfast on the bluff (we moved table to that closer bluff for dinner)

Sounds like a great weekend except for the restaurant situation. Almost everybody in new Iberia cooks out or travels Fourth of July weekend so i guess all the restaurants shut down. I was actually at that Fourth of July celebration, my 11 year old walked in the parade with his Boy Scout troop.....

It was a nice get away. I wanted to canoe more, but she wasn't willing to go one the water after the alligator popped up next to the dock.
I wish we could of found more to do. But what we really wanted was a weekend with peace and quiet away from everyone and everything and we got that. Plus I got to get some of my harder to find tabasco sauces I like. (but their tour is a huge letdown)
Their gardens on Avery Island make up for it, we spent two hours walking around that area, it was nice and shady and you didn't feel the heat as much.
I really want to go back and stay at the Rip Van Winkle Gardens. We looked into that place first, but it was booked, they have three private cabins on residence, and you are allowed in the gardens after hours with the stay.
Those gardens were really relaxing to walk through. Best I could describe it. Again full of shade, lots of different species of plant. Very nice 1870's house on property that was a lot nicer than the "Shadows"

My wife actually grew up on Avery island so I've seen the jungle gardens numerous times, but i prefer Rip Van Winkle, probably because of the lake
