Is it a nice alternative to Walmart here?

Where is here?

Kroger is good. I think it'll get more love in places where there isn't one, like most things on this board.

depends on what you're buying. can't beat Walmart for household items or canned/boxed/frozen stuff.

Kroger's produce and meats is probably a little better though.

It wouldn't be that bad if it didn't serve as a Mecca for trash and general unwashed masses.

We have Kroger in Houston. It is my primary grocery store. Very happy with them. It is a good place to shop not only for the food but for the service. Oh, and they have Blue Rhino refills for $16.99 !

I loved my Kroger when I lived in Houston. Take away the Louisiana items and Kroger is better than Rouses.

Ones in Jackson are pretty nice. Much better than Walmart

I am far from the usual WalMart hater -- I am quite willing to go there and save some money. But even I avoid their meat dept.

As for the OP, Kroger's is one of the best chains. Reasonable prices and good selection.

It is my go to store. But the store I go to is the "home store" of the southeast regional manager (or some such title) so it is very nice.

Otherwise, I'd go to Publix. Non-union and more friendly and helpful in general.

They have some shitty ones, and they have some nice ones, just like most chain grocery stores.

This. I go to Walmart for everyday stuff but Kroger for meat and produce. Kroger is ridiculous expensive for most stuff. It's about $40-50 more for my weekly stuff there vs wal mart

I refuse to go to Walmart, so yes, it is a nice alternative.

We go to Kroger for our groceries. I think HEB is cheaper but it's always packed. We avoid Wal-Mart like the plague. We stick to Target if we need to go to an all in one place.

The one on Youree has really good jumbo shrimp prices. For Shreveport anyway.

I prefer Brookshire's and Sam's though for groceries.

HEB is where its at, although the Kroger near me (Buffalo Speedway) is still very nice.

^This. In Shreveport, I usually shop at the nice Brookshires at Line and Pierremont. After shopping there, I find every other grocery store disappointing. It costs more, but I just like the store better.

Totally, I actually live closer to the ghetto Brookshire's but drive to Line Ave.

You know, I've actually found that most stores are pretty comparable. Now, if you go with a specific list (espescially by brand) you will pay more, but I usually shop with flexibility. I just think of meals, not specific items, and usually can always find sales or discounts at any store. And I rarely buy name brand.
