You can freeze it, but it's good in the fridge for maybe two days. If you store it in a covered glass or plastic container (out of the container you purchased it in)you should be fine.
Did I answer your question?

Yeah. I guess that's what I forgot. Taking it out of the original container.

Doesn't matter now. I'm eating it like a bowl of cereal:

A bratwurst dog with sauerkraut and a couple of ESB's from a local brewery.

I keep crabmeat in an ice bath. I never freeze it. I think it's awful frozen. The texture changes to an undesirable one for my taste. I've tried all kinds of ways to freeze it unsuccessfully except in stuffed eggplant and these other little apps with mayo. I think fat may protect it.
Not a long shelf life on crabmeat. Keep it ice cold and the life lasts longer, but it's short regardless.

I had it in an ice bath since Sunday afternoon.
I forgot to take it out of the original container. I guess that's why I was told it didn't smell fresh.
It tasted fine. If I'm gone tomorrow, you can have my duck press and collection of Cooks Illustrated magazines.

I must never have leftover unused crab meat. I didn't know about the ice bath.

It's for whenever you get it home.
Not necessarily for leftovers. They keep it on ice in the store. That way it's colder than the fridge, but not freezing in the freezer.
I agree with Gris, frozen ruins it. Never had a good experience with that.

Thanks for the offers, but you'll be just fine.
I've never changed the container either.
Glad to see you back!

The last of some leftovers. Smoked baby back ribs and smoked baked beans.
