Yep. I think you have to understand what Doe's is all about.

For the prices, it seems to be kind of dumpy and has crap for service is what I get from reading this thread.

Give me Crazy Johnny's with $16 steaks if that is the kind of place I want to hit up.

I don't find this to be unreasonable at all. Checking Sullivan's menu, a 16 oz ribeye will set you back $36, or a 22 oz bone-in is $38 (almost $28/lb).

I like Doe's for what it is...a pretty good casual steakhouse. If the lady and I don't feel like dressing up we can go and split a porterhouse and have a few beers, and I'm not sure that my bill even breaks $100.

People seem to either love or hate the place, though.

I agree. You have to take it for what it is. You can wear what you want and get a good steak.

But I do have to say this.. for me PERSONALLY, if I'm spending that much on a steak, I want to be in a setting where you dress nice. If I wanted to dress casually, I'd grill a steak at home.. or eat at a cheaper steakhouse.. or not eat steak

I don't think this is a fault of Doe's though.. I think it's just a personal preference.
I don't spend large amounts of money on ANY type of food if it's in a picnic setting and people are in shorts

The wine was 35 so almost 50 bucks just for a steak.

A 32 ounce ribeye at Doe's is $44. That's a two pound steak. You will not be getting a 32 ounce steak at Ruth's for $44. The pound and a half porterhouse and ribeye are both $33, including a side. That's not Ruth's prices.

i got the ribeye at ruths on wednesday night and i gotta say it isnt much smaller then doe's

Didn't realize that. They did have a 1 1/2 pound ribeye recently. I usually go with the porterhouse. Never been disappointed with a huge steak and a side of fries for $33.

It's not as good as Ruth's but what I get is certainly not the same price, especially after the a la carte sides.

Wife and I will split a 2 lb steak at doe's and get tamales for around $85 with tip. Father in Law usually brings a few bottles of wine which helps.

Wife and I go to Sammy's and get around 12 lb's usually and a coach's plate for around $85 with tip before drinks.

Breakdown (before tip, no drinks):

Does: 2 lbs ($44) + tamales ($15) = $59

Sammy's: 12 lbs ($48) + 2 order's corn & potatos ($6), coache's plate ($10) = $64

I eat more steak than wife so 16oz+ is plenty for me. It takes about 5-6 lbs of boiled to = 1 lb peeled crawfish. (does 1 lb meat = $22; sammy's 1 lb meat = $20-$24)

Add in the fact that Doe's allows you to bring your own wine (or father in law in my case), so it's actually cheaper for me to go to doe's.

So yeah I'd say they're in the same ballpark.

Your comparison here is kinda funny imo because you are comparing an insane amount of food at Sammy's to a rather small amount of food at Doe's.

Sammy's:

12lbs of crawfish is a lot for a man and a woman to eat at 1 sitting at a restaurant. A LOT

Dunno about the corn and potatoes part because they give you corn and potatoes with each tray of crawfish. 2 extra orders though just adds to the large amount of food you are already eating. Thats about 12 potatoes and 6 corn total.

And to top it off you pretty much order the largest appetizer that they offer. Coach's plate: Grilled Chicken and Smoked Sausage with diced Swiss and Cheddar cheese, Roma tomatoes, and Pickles. Served with BBQ sauce and Mustard.

This is a meal (in terms of quantity) that is fit for your last supper before going to the electric chair.

$64

Now on to Doe's:

1 steak split between two people and 6 tamales. A small side salad which if yall split would be about 2 bites each.

$59

I will take the last supper meal anyday of the week.

Not sure how massive you are, but 3lbs is plenty for me. That's not exactly "large amounts of money"

We don't spend $150 as a couple when going to eat crawfish. $150 isn't very far-fetched when going to a steak dinner where the steak is $40 a person.

So yeah your comparison blows

I reiterate.. if $150 is being spent on the meal, you better believe I want to be in a dress and heels and eating on something that's not a picnic table with a checkered plastic tablecloth.

He and his wife must be huge. There's no fricking way Brag and I could even eat HALF of what he said he orders at Sammy's.

$150 is quite far-fetched when the steaks there are $18-$22 per pound and inclue a salad and a side. Some of you people are literally doubling the price to suit an agenda. It's not as good as Ruth's, and it's not the same price. No reasonable person should order a 32 ounce ribeye for just themselves. If they do, it will cost $44. Those huge steaks are meant to share between two people.

I'm not talking about Doe's menu because I've never been there.. I hate steak. I don't know what comes with what or how much you have to order or what. I am just going by what Rjone said he paid. I thought he said it was a 2lb minimum so that;s why he had a 2lb steak but maybe I didn't read that...

I said before in the thread.. it's a personal preference. If you PREFER to be in cutoffs eating an expensive meal, fine. But I do not. If you really do in fact have to order at least 2lbs, then $44/person + wine/drinks = ~$120 before tip.

If he was wrong and it's $22/person and includes all sides, then yeah that's ~$80 before tip. Still, we don't spend $80 on general casual dinners. Bistro Byronz, Chelseas, Sammy's.. you wear cutoffs to all these places and we never spend more than $40-$50. Certainly not $80. If we're spending $80, I PERSONALLLLYYYY want to be in heels and a dress and in a nicer place

Gotcha. There is no such requirement. The smallest ribeye is 2 pounds, according to him. It used to be 1 1/2 pound. There is no discouragement from splitting the steaks, that's the idea. It's why they have a 2 and 3 pound sirloin and 24 oz to 3 pound porterhouses.

It's, at most, $22/pound. That includes a salad and your choice of homemade fries or new potatoes.

I've never gone there in cutoffs. Don't own a pair. I've been paying just as much for 4 pounds of crawfish lately.

that salad comes in a bowl about the size of a compact disc. ill give you that the potatoes as a side is good, if you like potatoes. I can understand sharing with your gf/wife but thats not gonna happen with say a group of guys or in the situation that i was in.

i guess what gets at me about Doe's is that i could go to lets say Maxwell's and get a nice steak and go to winn dixie for the other stuff and literally cook the same exact meal at my place. I will probably spend a third of the money and it will be just as good. I cant do that with Ruth's.

i was simply pointing out that he was trying to compare the price of doe's to sammys where at sammys he was ordering an obnoxious amount of food to a rather small portion of food at doe's.
