Note - this is a Weber Kettle thread, but the chicken recipe will probably work on any thread.

I'll cut to the chase: both the SnS and the Vortex did a great job. I just want to know how many of y'all have done Kettle Fried Chicken before? Was it any good? How many of you are going to go out and give it a whirl?

My hand is up...

I’ve done it and can confirm that it gets crunchy and maybe even crunchier than fried chicken.

In a good way? Would you do it again, or is it just a novelty? Other than an occasional fish fry, we don't deep fry much in our house. I thought the guy in the video overdid it on the flour, but it looks like it could be good if the seasoning is good. It's easy to under season flour.

How hot do you think those grills are? I noticed no one answered that in the comments section of the video.

I tried it. I just did what he did Left the vents wide open. I tried it a little different - I used greek seasoning in my flour, along with garlic powder.

The chicken turned out very good. Super crisp. I screwed up and put some butter/honey/hot sauce on the chicken, but had too much butter, and that didn't enhance the flavor as much as I would have liked. The crust was actually still pretty crispy the next day, for leftovers. I forgot to take picks when it was completely done and brushed, but I do have a pic of it on the grill shortly before I took it off.

My kettle gets up to 500 or better at the lid on the "cool side" with one chimney starter full in baskets or behind fire bricks on the other side.

I did the KFC a few years ago when it was the hot thing on a Weber board. It was fine, but more of a one time novelty for me.
