I do not understand why some restaurants cannot figure out how to handle a Visa GC to the total and put the rest on a separate credit card. And I am not talking about the Vanilla Gift cards that really do suck. This was a $200 Visa GC that was given to me. I wanted to apply the $200 and pick up the remainder on my regular card for a large table for my daughter and her friends. The entire $200 would have bee used and I would have put the balance on my other card. It is infuriating. Last night was told they only accept their own gift card. total BS.

If I recall from when I worked in retail and restaurants, you often times need to go to the computer and type in the amount you want to put on the Visa card, then swipe it, then you're left with the remainder.

A lot of servers and cashiers don't seem to understand this and they try to swipe the card as if it was a regular credit card.. then it is of course denied because it doesn't cover the whole bill.

Just load to GC onto PayPal, request an invoice for the balance of the GC to yourself, and pay said invoice with said GC balance. Then, transfer to checking account.

Or just get someone with an IQ over room temperature to do as laid out above your post.

I'm not going through 27 steps to use a gift card because they hired a slack jaw.

Don't confuse them with debit card shenanigans!

Well, considering it's only 4 steps and requires just a couple of minutes, I save a load of time not having to deal with these slack jaws like you baws do. But suit yourself!

Did you ask to see a manager? Its not exactly a normal thing OP? Well, then again it is actually.

I think your problem is telling them that you wanted to use a "gift card". They aren't a gift card, its a debit card essentially with a $200 limit.

So what you need to do is to tell them to put $200 on the Visa GC and the remaining balance on the other card. Tell them to have a manager help if they can't do that, because its that easy and I worked in restaurants in the past.

I believe you have to do something like back 20% out of it and run it for a specific amount (as someone noted). I really don’t know though, sorry
